My little Mickey Mouse fan wanted a Mickey Mouse themed birthday party, so you know what that means: a Mickey Mouse cake! I enjoy making my kids’ birthday cakes at home, but these character cakes can be hard! Enter Wilton cake pans…I love them. They make character cakes so much easier to create. Last year, I used the Wilton Cars Cake Pan to make a Lightning McQueen cake. It turned out so well that I bought the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake Pan for our Mickey Cake.
I always put my cakes in the freezer for a few hours or overnight before I begin the decorating process. If you have never done this before, trust me, it’s worth it because a frozen cake is much easier to trim and decorate. Use a knife to “trim” the cake on top to make the cake uniformly flat. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Be careful to not trim off any of the details of Mickey’s face–you’ll need those to know where to put the icing.
I don’t have mad cake decorating skills, but I do get a little better every time I make one of these cakes. A beginner could definitely handle this Mickey Mouse cake, just carefully follow the icing directions that come with the cake pan. You will need a few basic Cake Decorating Tips . The ones you need to ice this particular cake are listed on the cake pan instructions. You will also need the Wilton Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Icing Color Set and decorating bags if you don’t already own some.
The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake was the perfect addition to our party. It was easy to make and my Mickey Mouse fan loved it, which of course made my efforts worth it!
The only thing I didn’t like is that black icing does not taste good…and as you can see, the Mickey Mouse cake uses a lot of black icing. No one wanted to eat the black part of the cake, so I would suggest having cupcakes on hand to supplement this cake.
Bonus Tip: You can use this cake pan to make a Minnie Mouse Cake. Just add eyelashes (use black icing) and you can add a real bow (made from pink polka dot ribbon) or if you are feeling creatively brave, use pink and white icing to draw a bow directly on the cake.
