America Recycles Day! Recycling 101 Infographic

November 15, 2013 by Nicole 5 Comments

The average American creates 4.4 pounds of trash PER DAY! Today is America Recycles Day, which makes this infographic a timely reminder of why we should make an effort to recycle. It also shows what different items can be turned into when we recycle. For example, a pair of blue jeans can be made with 20% post-consumer content (equal to about 8 plastic bottles).

I needed this reminder to think before I toss things to the trash. One change I am trying to make is to choose cartons over cans. Cartons mean 60% less waste goes into our landfills, plus they have other advantages over cans.

How about you? What things can you recycle instead of throwing away?

I can’t believe we make that many pounds of trash in one day, how crazy. I try to recycle everything I can.

I was pretty proud of how little trash I threw away, but I need to readjust now that my fiance is moving in – I just didn’t realize how much I still wasn’t recycling or reducing!

The infographics are very interesting and informative. My family does do their share if recycling each day. I am glad my town picks up each week.

I sometimes can’t believe how much trash my small household generates. At least we do take care to recycle every last thing that is considered recyclable. Interesting graphic!
