This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Hess Toy Truck – and I think they have totally outdone themselves with the 2014 collectible toy truck edition. There’s three parts to this year’s model: a Hess flat bed truck, a Space Cruiser, and a Scout.
Thank you to Hess Toy Truck for providing us with a 2014 Hess Toy Truck and Space Cruiser with Scout for our review. All opinions expressed are my own, based on personal experiences.
The Hess heavy-duty flat bed truck has the number 50 embossed on the sides in honor of the 50th Anniversary year. There are all sorts of other great details on it, too, including 41 working lights! Three push buttons activate the sound effects (ramp hydraulics and launch alarm, ignition, and horn). The back of the truck doubles as a launch pad for the Space Cruiser. The launch pad ramp actually elevates with a push of a button!
My boys are in love – they can’t stop pushing the buttons. (Parents Take Note: Yes, the sound effects can be turned off with a switch.) The Space Cruiser is every bit as cool as the Hess Toy Truck. There are 8 working lights and 3 buttons for sound effects. In addition to that, there are 3 motion-activated sound effects. So when the kids play with the Space Cruiser, it actually sounds like it’s in a dive, or climb, or turn.
The little Scout is like a surprise bonus hiding inside the Space Cruiser. When you push the Space Cruiser’s cargo door button, it opens to reveal Scout. Scout has 2 working lights and folding wings.
Hess Toy Trucks make an excellent gift idea for kids and collectors. I want to start a holiday tradition with my boys to get the annual Hess Toy Truck. The extremely reasonable price of $29.99 plus tax includes Free Shipping. I am happy the toy truck was ready to play right out of the box because it comes with pre-installed Energizer batteries.
