The holidays are here and meal times can be challenging for families dealing with Type 1 Diabetes. Lilly Diabetes and Disney got together to create some fun and healthy dishes that are sure to bring delight to your family table this year. All the recipes included in the new cookbook, Dishing It Up Disney Style, address the nutritional needs of children living with Type 1 diabetes, but you’ll see that these healthy recipes can be enjoyed by everyone in your household.
The Dishing It Up Disney Style cookbook contains dozens of wholesome recipes that are diverse, delicious, and easy to make – taking guess work out of meal planning and carbohydrate or calorie counting! Each recipe offers tips from Disney characters to get children involved and make cooking fun for the whole family. Every dish also features nutritional analysis (by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, formerly the American Dietetic Association) with a carbohydrate count, which can help make calculations a snap for those with type 1 diabetes.
Approximately 10% of those with type 1 diabetes also have celiac disease, so the cookbook includes gluten-free recipes or notes on how recipes can be prepared in a gluten-free way.
The Dishing It Up Disney Style cookbook is available for FREE through pediatric endocrinologist offices. Be sure to request one from your child’s doctor. You can also visit DisneyFamily.com to find resources for families dealing with Type 1 diabetes.
