Canbassador BadgeMom Always Finds Out is a compensated Cans Get You Cooking Canbassador. All opinions expressed are my own.

This year, I have the opportunity to work with Cans Get You Cooking to spread the word about nutritious homemade recipes for busy families. Canned foods are a budget-friendly and convenient way to cook. You won’t believe all the quick and easy meals you can make using canned foods! I know I had no idea just how creative cooking with cans could be until I visited the Cans Get You Cooking website and saw all of the delicious-looking recipes.

A few of my favorite quick and easy recipes are pictured below: Crustless Quiche, Pineapple Chicken Salad, Quinoa Chicken Vegetable Salad, Huevos Rancheros and Chicken Tacos with Peach Salsa.

February is Canned Food Month.

I am excited to learn more about cooking with cans. Join me in watching the Cooking Channel’s 30-minute special Cans Make the Meal with Kelsey Nixon, airing throughout the month. Kelsey Nixon  is the host of the Emmy-nominated show Kelsey’s Essentials on Cooking Channel and Food Network, and author of the cookbook, Kitchen Confidence.

In Cans Make the Meal with Kelsey Nixon, she will be taking viewers down the canned food aisle and into her kitchen, sharing fun canned food facts, and creating delicious recipes inspired by the canned foods in her Cantry. Just FYI: “Cantry” is a new word to me. Can + Pantry. Cantry. I am totally stealing the word Cantry and using it from now on!

Cantry Thursday

More Fun Stuff: Cantry Thursdays.

By mid to late week, my family has eaten most of the groceries and I’m running out of dinner ideas. It’s super tempting to go out to eat, and that gets expensive really fast – especially if you have a big family like me. A better solution is to find easy dinner recipes to make using items in my Cantry. Cantry Thursdays are a reminder that I can use canned foods to help me put a nutritious, homemade meal on the table.

My usual way of using canned foods is just opening up canned veggies and heating them up as a side dish. I love that Cans Get You Cooking shows me (and everyone else) how to go beyond that and use cans to make creative meals. Canned foods have a lot more potential that I realized! I’m finding recipes for breakfast, appetizers, dinner and desserts that can all be made using cans.

Canned foods like fresh fruits and vegetables that have been harvested at their peak of ripeness and canned within hours. Cans are an affordable way for me to serve fruits and vegetables year round. The canning process has long been one of the best ways to lock in nutrients and get food from its source to the table.
