Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe

September 11, 2017 by Nicole 8 Comments

It couldn’t be easier to make your own pumpkin pie spice at home. Plus, this pumpkin pie spice recipe easily doubles (or triples) to make enough to last busy bakers the whole holiday season!

Did you know it is much more cost effective to make your own pumpkin spice? I used to think there was some special ingredients in those teeny tiny jars of Pumpkin Pie spice they sell at the store. But nope, there’s not.

Pumpkin spice mix is made out of common spices you probably already have in your pantry: Cinnamon, Ground Ginger, Nutmeg, Ground Allspice and Ground Cloves. I buy most of these spices in bulk on the cheap and whip up a batch of this pumpkin spice recipe whenever I need it.

This homemade pumpkin spice blend is perfect for using in pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, our favorite pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, slow cooker pumpkin spice applesauce, and any other recipe that calls for pumpkin pie spice.

The best part is that you can tweak this pumpkin pie spice recipe to fit your taste buds. Some people leave out the Ground Allspice completely. Others cut down on the Ground Cloves so the pumpkin pie spice blend doesn’t have a spicy “bite” to it. Personally, I like the added spicy flavor you get from the ground cloves.

This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled to make a bigger batch. A double batch is usually enough to last me awhile. Store any unused pumpkin pie spice mix in an airtight container. I like to put mine into a small mason jar. Jars are so much easier to dip a measuring spoon into than a tiny spice bottle.

Simply add the spices to a bowl and mix them up!

That is so useful!! I am usually lazy and just buy the extra spice even though I have everything on hand already. I will have to remember this. #HomeMattersParty

Hi Sheena, I was the same way. I always bought it in those little half size spice containers that would only be enough to make like one or two things! 🙂
