One of the perks of living in Utah is having easy access to ski the greatest snow on Earth. That perk is made even sweeter for families like mine because Utah kids ski free with the Epic SchoolKids Pass at Park City Mountain.
Sign-ups for the Ski Season are now open! Click to register your child for their free #EpicSchoolKids Pass.
My kids have signed up for the Epic SchoolKids Pass every year for the past several years. It’s totally free to sign up and comes with five days of free skiing for children in K through 5th grade and one free first-timer ski lesson with equipment rental.
I know this program almost sounds too good to be true. Free skiing for kids?!?! Yes, it is for real. I tell all of my Utah friends with children is grades K through 5 to take advantage of this wonderful deal. We have four kids, and the Epic SchoolKids Pass helps our family save a lot of money every ski season.

The Epic SchoolKids Pass is all about getting kids outdoors, active and enjoying a great ski experience. The program is for all ski ability levels from beginners on up.
My youngest children (ages 5 and 7 years old) absolutely loved taking a lesson at Park City Mountain. I dropped them off at Ski School at 9am, and the instructors took it from there. Park City Mountain ski instructors are amazing with kids. I was impressed by their patience and kindness. As beginners, my kids started off with instruction on how to put skis on, and progressed to moving around with skis on. They learned how to do the basic ski positions “Pizza” and “French Fries.” They enjoyed skiing through the arch at the obstacle course. While kids are in ski lessons, parents are free to go ski or hang out. I admit, I was a bit of a stalker and kept sneaking peeks of my kids in their lesson. I was able to stand on the sidelines and take photos of them riding the “Magic Carpet” and learning how to ski down the beginner’s hill. By the end of the morning, the kids were ready to go on the ski lift! After the ski lesson, we met up with the more advanced skiers of the family, my older kids (ages 9 and 13 years) and husband, so our whole family could ski together. But first, it was time to refuel with lunch at Summit House. It was a gorgeous Spring day, perfect for eating outside on the deck and enjoying the amazing mountain views. You have to ride the chair lift all the way up to this on-mountain restaurant, and this was the first time everyone in my family has been able to eat here together! I was so proud of my younger kids for being able to do this. This major accomplishment deserves a family selfie!
After lunch, we headed back down the mountain together. My older boys are super excited that I am finally able to join them for a ski day. I am a beginner skier, so they like to help me out by giving me pointers.
The older boys are really good about sticking with me, even though I know they would rather be ripping down the mountain at a hundred miles per hour. I love my boys, and I love that I get to enjoy skiing with my family, thanks to the Epic SchoolKids program.
If your family lives in Utah, what are you waiting for? Take advantage of the Epic SchoolKids Pass so your child can ski free this winter at Park City Mountain! Sign ups for the 2017-18 season are open. I hope to see you on the mountain next winter!

Hey Nicole, That’s an awesome offer you guys get. We’re coming to Park City this Christmas from Australia and I’m trying to find a few other kids for our 9 and 12 year old to ski with. We’re going to be there for 3 weeks and things can get a bit testing for the four of us to ski together every day. Putting them in ski school gets hugely expensive. I tried to find some Facebook groups without success. As a local, I wonder if you have any suggestions on how we might find other families to meet while we’re there? Cheers, Damon

Hi Damon, It sounds like a fun trip you have got planned. I would suggest going to Meetup.com and search “Ski” in Park City groups. You should be able to find a few groups on there that can help you out. Good luck! -Nicole

I haven’t skied in years, but when I visited Utah a few years ago, I couldn’t get over how gorgeous it is! #HomeMattersParty

I’m glad your kids have fun and take advantage of the free event. We live in Sevier County near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and they always offer free events and shows to locals for putting up with the tourist traffic. It is a great perk.
Nicole says
Isn’t it nice to get perks for local attractions? I agree with you — people who live near tourist places totally deserve some sort of reward for putting up with all the extra traffic. It sounds like you live in a fun place, too. I have always wanted to go to Gatlinburg!

Thanks for sharing this! We visit family in Utah a few times a year, so I pinned this to remember for next year. We’re going there this summer for a few weeks so we got the Pass of All Passes for $15 each. Since going to Seven Peaks once pays for the pass, that’s a pretty amazing price! The low prices are one of my favorite things about Utah (along with the ridiculously HUGE and cheap ice cream cones from Macey’s).
Nicole says
Hi Sara, The Pass of all Passes is a great deal! We get it even just to go to Seven Peaks once (cause like you said, at $15 it pays for itself in just one time!) I haven’t ever had the Macey’s ice cream cones, I’ll have to take the kids there to try it. I wish we had Macey’s in our town. (If you are from Utah, you probably miss Macey’s a lot. I remember how AK groceries are so $$$) That’s cool, I didn’t know you had Utah connections. 🙂 Thanks for the pin! -Nicole

This is a great program! Growing up in Maine we had something similar to this program through our school. The bus took us straight from school to the ski slopes on Wednesday nights — some of the best memories of my childhood!
Nicole says
Wow, that sounds wonderful to have the bus straight to skiing. My older kids would LOVE that! Thanks for sharing your fun memories, Andrew. 🙂

This is pretty awesome! I have some friends with kids who live in Utah. Definitely spreading the word! I think they would enjoy this!
Nicole says
Thanks so much, Becky. It’s a great free skiing program, I hope all the Utah kids hear about it so they can sign up. I really appreciate your shares!

Wow! What a fun experience. The Kid Pass is great. We live in AZ and it’s expensive to ski here.
Nicole says
Hi Connie, Thanks for your comments! The Epic SchoolKids pass saves us a lot of money. Maybe the program will catch on in Arizona. It’s a great idea (Colorado does it, too.)

I went skiing in college a few times and absolutely loved it. I wish I had started when I was a kid…those little kids are fearless out there!
Nicole says
Hi Diane, I totally agree, I think learning to ski as a child has so many advantages. I never downhill skied until I was in my 30s, so as you can imagine I have all sorts of super little kids on skis passing me by as I slowly make my way down the mountain. LOL! I am so glad my kids are getting an early start. They love it. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your comments.
