BB-8 Caramel Popcorn is a sweet and salty snack that’s perfect for a Star Wars movie night or Star Wars party food. You’ll love this homemade caramel popcorn mixed with favorite movie candies in BB-8 colors.
A fun way to celebrate Star Wars Day (May the Fourth Be With You) is to have a Star Wars movie night. My kids want us to watch the latest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. We have only watched it a handful of times since it came out on DVD a few weeks ago.
I decided to have BB-8 themed Star Wars party food for us to snack on while we watched the movie. Popcorn was the obvious choice – we can’t watch any movie without it! But to make it extra special, I made caramel popcorn and mixed in some of our favorite candies in BB-8 colors (mainly orange with a little bit of blue, brown, black and metallic silver.) This results in a delicious sweet and salty popcorn mix. It’s the perfect movie night snack.
The kids decided to put down their lightsabers long enough to help me mix up some yummy, gooey caramel and candy popcorn. For easy clean-up, I had plenty of Huggies® Wipes set out on the table nearby. The wipes got everybody’s sticky fingers cleaned up after helping me make the popcorn AND after we had finished eating it.
Celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4th with this BB-8 caramel popcorn recipe! PS Don’t forget to keep Huggies® wipes handy to clean up sticky fingers and any other messes.

- 8 cups plain popped popcorn *equals 2 microwaveable popcorn bags, popped
- 2 cups mini pretzels
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
- 3 cups Mini Marshmallows
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 to 1.5 cups Orange, Blue and Brown M&Ms I used Plain, Mini and Peanut M&Ms and picked out mostly orange M&Ms plus some blue and brown ones.
- 4 pieces Black licorice Cut into 1/4 inch pieces
- 2-3 Tablespoons Silver Jimmies
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat. Mix popped popcorn and pretzels and spread into an even layer on the baking sheet. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and corn syrup and stir to combine completely. Reduce heat to low and add marshmallows, stirring until they are completely melted. Immediately remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
- Carefully pour the marshmallow caramel mixture over the popcorn and pretzels. Gently stir to coat the popcorn and pretzels as evenly as possible. (It's sticky!)
- Stir in the M&Ms and licorice. Add salt to taste, if desired.
BB-8 Caramel Popcorn is best eaten the same day it is made. However, this popcorn can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week. It will remain soft and sticky.
I was a little bummed when I could not find Star Wars party supplies at our store. I really wanted to have Star Wars cups for our popcorn. Then, I had an idea to let the kids make their own Star Wars cups out of plain cups and Star Wars stickers.
I bought solid orange party cups and a few sheets of Star Wars stickers. My kids actually had a great time decorating their cups. We even had a few neighbor kids stop by and ask if they could make a Star Wars cup, too. I’m filing this simple party activity away for future reference!
Want to do this at your house? All you need are disposable party cups and stickers. Give one of each to all of the kids, and they take it from there. It’s fun to decorate party cups with stickers!

This recipe doesn’t have brown sugar listed on the ingredients, but step #2 in the directions says to add it. How much brown sugar do we add?
