Chocolate mousse is a creamy, delicious dessert perfect for special occasions. But why wait for a special occasion to come along? It’s such an easy dessert recipe that you can whip it up whenever you’ve got a craving for something cool and chocolaty.
Chocolate Mousse
You can easily make chocolate mousse look like a fancy dessert by serving it in individual dessert bowls or wine glasses. Top mousse with whipped cream and sprinkle with a little bit of powdered cocoa or fresh chocolate shavings.
The Chocolate Mousse recipe I am sharing with you here is perfect for first-time mousse makers. There are only five simple ingredients. The hardest part about making chocolate mousse is waiting 6 hours for the finished product to chill and set before eating it.
One of the best things you can do to ensure your mousse tastes great is to use high quality chocolate chips. You can use Milk Chocolate chips or Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips. Milk Chocolate chips will result in a sweeter-tasting chocolate mousse than the Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips.

Creamy chocolate mousse is a decadent dessert perfect for everyday and special occasions. Use high quality chocolate chips for best flavor results.
|
- 3 cups Heavy Cream (divided)
- 12 ounces Chocolate Chips Milk Chocolate or Semi-Sweet
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/4 cup White Sugar
- Melt 1 cup heavy cream, chocolate chips, vanilla and salt together in the top of a double boiler until chocolate is completely smooth.
- Pour chocolate mixture into a bowl and cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally. *Speed up the cooling process by putting the bowl into the refrigerator.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat 2 cups heavy cream with 1/4 cup sugar until stiff peaks begin to form. (This takes several minutes.)
- Fold whipped cream mixture into the cooled chocolate mixture. Put into a large serving dish or spoon into individual serving bowls. Chill mousse in refrigerator for at least 6 hours before serving.
- If desired, garnish with whipped cream and powdered cocoa (or chocolate shavings) immediately prior to serving.
You’ll note in the recipe that it takes several minutes to beat the heavy cream into stiff peaks, so a stand mixer is helpful for the task. However, a hand mixer gets the job done just as well, plus your arm will get a mini workout.
