Turn a Kleenex Box into the Coolest Star Wars Night Light in the Galaxy!

A few weeks ago, one of my boys began running a low fever with a runny nose. It was our family’s official welcome to the cold season, and I wasn’t prepared! I rushed to the store to stock up on necessities like fever reducers, cough drops and tissues.

Right in the middle of all the tissue boxes, I saw them: Kleenex® brand packs featuring Rogue One: A Star Wars Story© TM Lucasfilm LTD designs. I live in a house full of Star Wars fans so there was no question about it: THOSE were THE KLEENEX to buy.

I knew that the minute my son saw the Star Wars designs on the box, he would know I bought the tissues for him, and knowing that would make him feel a little bit better, despite his miserable cold. Sometimes it’s the little things that can show just how much we care.

Once our Kleenex® tissue box featuring Rogue One designs was empty, we couldn’t bear to throw it away. No way could we do that to our beloved Star Wars characters. We saved it because the box is perfect for recycled crafts like this DIY night light.

DIY Starry Galaxy Night Light Craft

My kids love a good Star Wars craft, and this one is just as much fun as it is useful. Here is how to create a DIY night light with a Kleenex® brand box ft. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story designs!

DIY Night Light

Project Time: 5 minutes

Materials Needed:

  • Kleenex® Brand tissue box featuring Rogue One: A Star Wars Story designs
  • Hole-punch tool or thumbtack
  • Battery-operated tea light

Kleenex tissue box craft - How to make a night light

Directions:

1. Empty tissues from box. Remove plastic from top of empty Kleenex® box.

2. Use a hole-punch tool or thumbtack to poke “star” holes in box.

3. Turn on the tea light and place it inside the box. Turn out the lights and check out your night light’s galaxy!

We ended up using a thumbtack and the sharp end of a tiny screwdriver to punch different sized holes in the tissue box. It makes a really cool effect when the starry galaxy is lit up.

My family can’t wait to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when it opens in theaters this December. We don’t know much about the story yet, but we do know that ordinary people will be tasked with doing extraordinary things.

Just like our favorite Rogue One characters, we can all do the extraordinary by showing those around us that we care with gestures big and small, like sharing a Kleenex tissue or spending quality time together crafting a night light.

Thank you, Lorelai. The kids have fun making them. We made these ahead of time for pictures and ever since then, they have been begging to make more. Just a couple more days til Thanksgiving and they can finally do it. Hope you have a wonderful holiday! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks so much, Michelle! 🙂 We love the Star Wars Kleenex boxes. They are so fun – and hopefully encourage my younger kids to use a tissue instead of their shirt sleeves. LOL 🙂
