Big Smelly Bear never washed.
Big Smelly Bear never brushed.
Big Smelly Bearn never took a bath.
Big Smelly Bear was followed by a big smelly stink wherever he went.
Flies buzzed all around him. But they were the only ones that ever came close…
None of this seemed to bother Big Smelly Bear. But sometimes he did think that it would be nice to have a friend.
Then, one morning, everything changed…
Big Smelly Bear wakes up with a terrible itch he just can’t scratch. A new friend comes along and offers to scratch his back – IF Big Smelly Bear will take a bath. Will Big Smelly Bear decide to become clean? Find out in Britta Teckentrup’s ‘Big Smelly Bear.’
This children’s book is a great read-aloud with a message any child who doesn’t like to take a bath can relate to. My boys (ages 1, 3, and 7) love for me to read about the stinky, dirty Big Smelly Bear. They think it is hilarious that Big Smelly Bear is followed by flies and all the forest animals run away when they smell him coming. When Big Smelly Bear has an itching problem, I’m glad that my boys conclude that he needs to take a bath so his new friend will help him scratch his back. The story is a cute way to teach children the social importance of being clean and smelling good.
I have read this on several occasions when my boys are resistant to taking a bath at bath time…and so far, it has worked to remind them that being clean and smelling good is the way to be!
The illustrations in this oversize book are fun and eye-catching for children. I really liked that my non-reader son (age 3) could tell the story to me simply by following the pictures throughout the book.
Your kids will enjoy ‘Big Smelly Bear,’ too. This book has become a fast favorite at my house, and I’m very glad we now own it.
