Choosing the Right Car Seat For Your Child + Chicco NextFit Car Seat

April 12, 2013 by Nicole

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Chicco and I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I have four children, which means we have owned a great many car seats over the past decade. Every time I had a baby, I got a little pickier about the car seat I wanted to buy. Past experience had taught me what car seat features I liked best, plus I always wanted to get the safest car seats available on current market.

After lots of research on car seats and car seat safety, I purchased Chicco’s #1-rated KeyFit® infant car seat for my youngest two children. I love the Chicco brand so much that I always recommend it to family and friends.

Choosing the Right Car Seat For Your Child

Julie Prom, Car Seat Safety Advocate for Chicco, shared tips with me about helping parents choose the right car seat. She reminded me that Rear-Facing Car Seats are Safest. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics and NTSB recommend children stay in a rear-facing car seat as long as possible – at least TWO years.  A convertible car seat is a great way to make sure your child can stay in the rear-facing position for this extended length of time.

Another great tip from Julie is that most children under 5 are not mature enough to sit without a harness. I KNOW that is true in my vehicle. I have a 3-year-old who has surprised me more than once by letting himself out of his seatbelt to roam the car while I was driving. I need a convertible car seat to help keep him securely harnessed in until I am ready for him to get out of his car seat.

NextFit Gemini Car Seat

Chicco has recently released its first convertible car seat designed for the North American market. The Chicco NextFit Car Seat  is the only car seat your child will need from infant to preschool age (5 t0 65 pounds).

Recommended Use:

Rear-facing: 5 to 40 pounds

Forward-facing: 22 to 65 pounds

Just like the popular KeyFit® infant car seat, the NextFit Car Seat is made to help parents easily install it correctly. Its innovative design makes it the easiest convertible car seat to install in a wide range of vehicles.

Watch this brief video that shows the Chicco NextFit’s many helpful features. You will be amazed at how easy it is to know your NextFit Car Seat is installed correctly and securely. The children in this video look so comfy in their car seats, it makes me want one for myself!

I think the Chicco NextFit Car Seat is a smart choice for moms looking to purchase a car seat. I have loved everything about the Chicco infant seats I used for years with my own children. I have to say that a convertible car seat like this is awesome because it saves money in the long run. You will never need to buy another car seat for your child, period.

I love that the NextFit car seat is so easy to install and KNOW you have it installed correctly. No more hoping and guessing that you have done it the right way. Chicco’s Car Seat lets you know with a glance that your child’s seat is safe and secure.

Most parents don’t know the four ages and stages of car seats for their children. Do you? Take a look at this helpful infographic that tells parents what type of car seat their child should be using at every age.

This is a great car seat – both because you can adjust it to fit your child’s size and because it lets you know that it fits.

Great review. It is so hard to find care seat that is safe but that will also last until your child is older. I know when my kids were babies we did a ton of research on car seats. It is one of the most important decisions you make when it comes to your child’s safety, so make sure you look around an read reviews like this one.
