My sister is expecting a baby, and I’m having fun giving my opinions on how to decorate the nursery. The question of crib bumpers came up early on as we were looking at different crib bedding options. We had both heard that standard crib bumpers can be a suffocation hazard for babies. In fact, I quit using crib bumpers years ago because I believe they can endanger babies. I feel it’s important to be aware of safety issues so that you can create a safe sleep environment for your baby.
Did you know that crib bumpers are no longer recommended and are actually banned in some states? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends creating a safe sleep environment for your baby to reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related deaths. You can do this by avoiding soft, loose bedding and crib bumpers.
Parents, there are safe, bumper-free baby bedding options in six cute colors and designer prints for girls and boys (there are gender neutral choices, too). HALO, a trusted name in baby sleepwear, recently introduced the SafeSleep Crib Set. This 5-piece set includes everything your baby needs for a safe sleep:
- HALO® SleepSack®Swaddle (Newborn)
- HALO® SleepSack® wearable blanket (Small fits 0-6 months)
- Two 100% cotton jersey fitted sheets
- Decorative skirt.
I chose to review the girl’s option shown above (Jumbo’s Flower Garden; boy’s option shown is called My Dog Sam). I love that the SafeSleep Crib Set includes the essentials you need for your baby’s bed and that the designs are so cute and versatile. The crib skirt looks cute with the polka dot crib sheet and the solid crib sheet. I like being able to change up the look of my baby’s bed so easily!
HALO SleepSack wearable blankets are the #1 choice of hospitals so it’s no doubt that you will love to use the Newborn SleepSack Swaddle and Small SleepSack Wearable Blanket. I used HALO SleepSacks with my babies because HALO’s patented design makes swaddling so easy to do: I just put my baby into the blanket, zipped it up and folded it over with the velcro closure. Perfect swaddle every time! A zip up Wearable Blanket is the best way to make sure your baby stays warm all night long – they are impossible to kick off.
I thought the sheets, the crib skirt and both SleepSacks were made from soft, quality cotton that will be gentle next to baby’s skin and last many trips through the washer and dryer. The SafeSleep Crib Set retails for $109, but you can find them on sale for as low as $56 at Amazon. The SafeSleep Crib Set would make an excellent baby shower gift.
