Our friends at Graco recently sent us the Graco TurboBooster LX Youth Booster featuring new TrueShield Technology. As I was taking photos, I realized that this is the very first car seat my almost 6-year-old son has gotten that was not a hand-me-down from his big brother. He is the youngest of four boys, so he is thrilled to get something brand new! We love Graco products, and this is a very nice booster for him.
My son was really excited to find out his new big kid booster seat comes with his very favorite feature: a cup holder! When I showed him the “secret” compartment on the other side that can slide in and out, he was hooked. He loves having little places to stick his stuff.
Graco TurboBooster LX features a hideaway compartment
While I totally agree that the hideaway compartment and cup holder are cool and convenient features on the Graco TurboBooster, I also want to see what kind of safety features this booster seat offers. The TurboBooster is safer than ever, thanks to new Graco TrueShield Technology.
TrueShield Technology provides kids with advanced side impact protection. Starting in 2017, TrueShield will be available on Graco SnugRide® Infant Car Seat, Extend2Fit™ 3-in-1 Car Seat, and TurboBooster® 2-in-1 booster seat.
On the TurboBooster LX, the TrueShield protective shields provide side impact protection from your child’s head to hips, in case of a side impact accident. *The TurboBooster® LX ft. TrueShield™ has been side impact tested for occupant retention by the vehicle belt in highback booster mode only.
Big kids who outgrow their forward-facing car seats can move on to the Graco TurboBooster LX. This belt-positioning booster is 2 boosters in 1. There is a HighBack Mode with a 7-position headrest, so it grows with your child. This mode is designed for children ages 4 to 10 years and 40 to 100 lbs.
The headrest is really easy to adjust and the whole seat is easy to carry: the seat back and bottom stay connected. Or, the seat back can also be removed so the booster can be used as a backless booster seat. The backless mode is designed for Big Kids ages 4-10 years and 40 to 110 lbs.
The TurboBooster has a LATCH attachment that helps keep the booster seat in place for easy buckling. This is really helpful, because my big kid likes to be able to buckle up all by himself.

I prefer the TurboBooster LX Youth Booster in HighBack Mode because it offers the most TrueShield protection to help keep my son safe at his age and stage. We converted it to the backless mode for photos. (Sidenote: As you can see, my model wasn’t being very cooperative to sit still and smile at the camera for photos.)
We will be putting the TurboBooster LX into the Highback Mode for our Spring Break travel adventure! Our destination is still to be determined, but my current plan is to get in the minivan and drive south until the thermometer hits 80 degrees.
