Homemade Versions of Your Favorite Snacks ~ Classic Snacks Made From Scratch Cookbook

February 26, 2013 by Nicole

diy homemade copycat recipes
Have you ever wanted to know how to make your own Goldfish, Twinkies, Oreos, Fruit Roll-Ups or Pop Tarts from scratch? You can make all of those things and more with the new cookbook, Classic Snacks Made From Scratch by popular food blogger and author Casey Barber. I never would have thought about making my own Peeps for Easter, Klondike Bars, or even Sour Patch Kids. There are more than 70 copycat recipes in this book that covers a huge range of snack options from cookies and cakes to ice cream treats and salty snacks and so much more. It is so fun to flip through all the full color photos and recipes to see which one of these favorite brand-name treats we want to make at home.
homemade animal crackers

I had a fun time using Casey’s recipe to make homemade animal crackers with my children. We used Wilton’s mini Noah’s Ark animal cookie cutters and they turned out great! It was a good thing I had made a double recipe, because these animal crackers did not last long at our house. According to my oldest son, the homemade version of animal crackers tastes better than the kind you buy at the store. That’s a pretty high compliment to receive from my 9-year-old!

Try Casey’s homemade Oreo cookie recipe and see for yourself how much fun it can be to bake your treats at home.

I like that there is a mix of sweet and savory snack recipes and that there are separate recipes for Cheez-It type crackers and Goldfish type crackers. Many recipes for homemade cheese crackers treat the two products as interchangeable. Cheez-It and Goldfish do not have the same taste or texture.
