Do you like homemade Halloween decorations? Make a spooky paper bag tree this year! It’s a very budget- and eco-friendly craft, all it takes is a brown paper bag and some rocks. There was one point while my son and I were making this tree that I thought, There’s no way this is going to look like a tree! But, I kept going and was happy with the end product – it does turn out to look like a spooky tree we can sit on a table or shelf with our other Halloween decorations.
The trick is to simply keep on twisting the branches! We could even twist ours a little bit more to make them super skinny and poky.
Materials:
- Large brown paper bag
- Rocks or pebbles
- Scissors
- Small water/soda bottle
Step 1:
Cut off and the bottom of a large brown grocery bag.
Step 2:
Cut all the way down one of the sides so you have a rectangle. Place the small bottle bottle on the center of it.
Step 3:
Cut several strips from the outer edges of the rectangle all the way down to about 5 inches from the bottle. These strips that will become limbs. Twist them to within 3 or 4 inches from the ends. *Be careful not to twist too tight or the paper will rip.
Step 4:
Cut strips in the untwisted ends the same way as in Step 3, and then twist them into finer branches.
Step 5:
Remove the bottle and fill the trunk with a small rock or pebbles. Twist the trunk shut.
