Building is fun with K’NEX Construction Toys

October 10, 2014 by Nicole

Mom Always Finds Out received K’NEX building sets for our review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own, based on our experiences. This blog post may contain affiliate links.

My kids are really into building with construction toys. We were recently introduced to our very first K’NEX Set, the 35 Model Ultimate Building Set.  I think this set is the perfect intro to K’NEX construction toys for a couple of reasons:

1. This set comes with plenty of pieces to get kids started with K’NEX: 475 rods and connectors.

2. A large, color instruction manual gives kids 35 unique building projects.

It will take most kids awhile (days, weeks, months) to get through every project in the 35 Model instruction book – they aren’t going to whip through it and be finished with all of them in an hour. My kids (ages 7 and 10) pick one K’Nex model at a time and depending on the difficulty level, can spend an hour or more working on it.

Another reason we think this set is awesome is because of the creative cardboard packaging. The 35 Model Ultimate Building Set comes in a treasure chest shaped box that kids can use to store the K’NEX pieces and creations.

The 35 Model Ultimate Building Set is recommended for kids ages 7 and up. Suggested Retail Price: $24.99. Available at Walmart, Amazon and knex.com

K’NEX sets featuring SUPER MARIO, TITANFALL, PLANTS vs. ZOMBIES

Knex Cat Mario Building Set

The CAT MARIO K’NEX building set is fun for more experienced builders (ages 8 and up), especially if they are Super Mario fans. Cat Mario battles mouse on this totally crazy obstacle course where anything can happen. This set can be combined with other SUPER MARIO K’NEX sets to create even bigger adventures. We’re in the middle of building our CAT MARIO set.

Something extra cool about this CAT MARIO set:

  • This set features K’NEX’s all new jump disk and launcher that allow Mario to run and jump, like he does in the game!

CAT MARIO K’NEX Suggested Retail Price: $34.99. Available at Walmart, Amazon and knex.com

knex plants vs zombies

A battery-operated K’NEX set that really moves? Awesome! Check out the Plants vs. Zombies ConeMech Building Set. This set is a little bit easier to build than CAT MARIO  and includes 1 zombie figure plus a buildable ConeMech that walks with motorized action, just like in the game! Recommended for ages 7 and up. Suggested Retail Price: $16.99. Available and Walmart, Amazon and knex.com

knex titanfall

Titanfall Militia Pilot Attack Building Set comes with 80+ pieces and a Militia Pilot figure. Combine with the IMC Pilot Strike Building Set to grow your K’NEX Titanfall collection. For builders ages 8+. MSRP: $12.99. Available at Walmart, Amazon and knex.com

Which K’NEX building sets would your child like to add to their toy collection? Do you have any favorite K’NEX sets?
