When Do You Start Brushing Your Baby’s Teeth? (MAM Review)

June 12, 2012 by Nicole

When do you start brushing your baby’s teeth? Proper oral care for babies starts BEFORE the first tooth appears. Since plaque and bacteria can build up in baby’s mouth, it is recommended that parents clean baby’s gums.  This task is easy with the MAM Oral Care Rabbit. Mom (or dad) simply tuck their fingers into the rabbit’s super soft ears like a glove, and gently massage baby’s gums clean with water.

Oral Care Rabbit for babies age Newborn and up

We recently received a MAM oral care products package for babies age 0-3 years.  I had no idea there were so many age and stage appropriate toothbrushes.  (Aside: These would make an excellent baby shower gift idea!)

Once baby starts to get teeth, parents can introduce the Massaging Brush (for babies age 2+ months). Please note that you do not use toothpaste until babies are 2 years old. This brush has different surfaces that massages baby’s gums, cleans teeth and eases teething pain.  The MAM Bite and Brush Teether (for babies age 3+ months) looks pretty interesting with its ring shape, which makes it easy for baby to hold. This lightweight teether has soft bristles that babies will like to feel against their sore gums.

MAM Bite & Brush

We have been using the MAM Training Toothbrush (for babies 4+ months) to clean my one-year-old’s teeth. All of MAM’s toothbrushes are appropriately sized for baby’s age. This training brush is small and round so it easily fits into his mouth.  I like that the bristles are super soft and gentle against his teeth.  This brush has an extra-long handle so that both of us can hold the brush at the same time. Babies love to grab things and put them in their mouth, so the longer handle feature makes the brush perfect for teaching them how to brush their teeth.

MAM First Brush

My son will soon graduate to the MAM First Brush (for babies age 6+ months). This brush has a shorter handle that is easy for baby hands to grasp. Other features:

  • Special indicator bristles to show the right area and amount of toothpaste for little ones
  • Round head gently fits baby’s mouth
  • Soft, rounded bristles gently clean teeth
