Whatever you may think you know about angels, go ahead and forget it. There are no peaceful, harp-strumming angels in Angelfall (Penryn and the End of Days). These angels have come to Earth wielding swords and wreaking mass destruction on mankind.
The story begins six weeks after the apocalypse. The modern world no longer exists. Humans are struggling to survive in the face of starvation, violent gangs and the threat of angels who seek to destroy them. It’s up to Penryn to help her schizophrenic mother and crippled 7-year-old sister Paige find safety in what used to be California.
When Paige is kidnapped by a group of angels, Penryn will do anything to get her back. She forms an unlikely alliance with the angel Raffe, whose wings were violently cut off by the same angels who took Penryn’s sister. They journey together towards the angels’ headquarters in San Francisco.
As the story unfolds, we gain insight into Penryn’s rocky relationship with her mother as well as clues about why destroying angels have been sent to Earth. Penryn is a strong and capable heroine with good survival instincts and a fierce loyalty to her family. Raffe has superhuman powers, perfect Godlike good looks, and humanlike flaws and tendencies. A romantic relationship begins to develop between them.
Book One ends well (considering it is going to be a series), but with a lot of unanswered questions. The next installment in Susan Ee’s Angelfall series will surely be one of the most highly anticipated books in YA literature, Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, so let me just say this much to sum it all up: You are going to love the exciting new Angelfall series! Read this bestselling book! It will captivate you from beginning to end and leave you wanting more.
