The new VTech InnoTab 2 is the latest in children’s tablets! This multimedia tablet has a 5-inch touchscreen and is great way for kids ages 3-9 to have fun while they learn all sorts of skills from reading to math to creative projects and more.
InnoTab 2’s rotatable digital camera and recorder is a total hit with all 3 of my boys! My kids love being silly with any camera, and the InnoTab 2 comes with a built-in digital camera that can take photos and videos. What makes the InnoTab 2’s camera feature really neat is that the camera rotates so you can take a picture of yourself or turn it to face outward and take pictures of everything around you.
You can use the pictures as your Innotab 2 screensaver. I think my boys have changed the zany photos on the screensaver about a thousand times already. They have probably spent as much time taking pictures as they have playing games on our InnoTab 2. I’m talking hours of fun here.
Don’t just take my word for it, though. Here’s a short video of my 5-year-old talking about taking photos with the InnoTab 2:
My 8-year-old was really excited when I told him that the Innotab 2 can take videos. We decided to check it out together and realized that my 5-year-old had already figured the video feature out and had made several videos of himself singing and talking. It was too cute! (I think he’s even reviewing the InnoTab 2 in one of his self-videos! Haha! I heard him saying something about the InnoTab’s e-Reader as though he was telling someone all about how he likes to use it to read books. I guess that’s to be expected when your mom has a product review blog!)
The InnoTab 2’s MP3 player is a feature we have not had the chance to use a lot, yet. My kids have been so into using the camera and video recorder that we have a lot left to explore on our tablet. You can download music at the VTech Learning Lodge Navigator (software included) or transfer it from your computer.
The InnoTab 2 comes with an extra stylus (nice because we tend to misplace our stylus) and also has a handy thing on the back that pops out to prop itself up during use.
Over the weeks that we have been playing with the InnoTab 2, I have noticed several things that I feel are worth sharing with you here.
The Pros:
It’s ready to play right out of the box. (Note: You will need to install 4 AA batteries, not included.) The InnoTab 2 comes with the Read, Play & Create cartridge. This cartridge includes one eBook, a camera game, and a coloring game. It’s definitely enough to get started and have fun, but you will eventually want to download games and eBooks from the Learning Lodge Navigator and/or purchase game cartridges for your kids to play. You get a couple of FREE game and eBook downloads when you connect to the Learning Lodge Navigator for the first time.
Great features and value. The Innotab 2 comes with lots of features including a tilt sensor, photo viewer, MP3 player, video player, eReader, art studio and microphone for the same price as the original model ($79.99).
The InnoTab 2 can be enjoyed by children of a variety of ages. If your children are willing to share, one InnoTab 2 can work for your family because it stores up to 4 different user profiles. The User Profiles pop up when you turn the InnoTab 2 power on and you can select the correct user name. There are many age/education level appropriate games and apps available for the Innotab 2, so kids will get years of use out of it. My 2- (almost 3) year-old likes to color and draw in the Art Studio and the older boys (ages 5 and 8) are able to do that plus enjoy using the eReader, games, apps and other more advanced features. Parents can even track their child’s learning progress.
Your child will be endlessly entertained with the InnoTab 2. The Learning Lodge Navigator has more than 200 downloads so you can always add to your games, music and e-Reader library.
Great choice for a travel toy. Our tablet provides instant entertainment in the car. It’s nice to hear them in the backseat having fun playing games, taking pictures, and drawing. Road trips go a lot more smoothly when everyone is happily occupied.
Durable design. Let’s face it, kids (at least mine) are going to drop it on the floor, bang it around and who knows what else their tablet will go through. The Innotab 2 is durable and can take a little bit of rough handling.
And yes, there is a Con:
The InnoTab 2 uses a lot of battery power. This tablet uses 4 AA batteries and we have had to change them out every 4-5 days. We did get hours and hours of use in between battery changes, but I would definitely invest in rechargeable batteries or buy the InnoTab 2 adaptor (sold separately). It would be worth it. Note: The Innotab 2 preserves battery power by automatically shutting off after 8 minutes of no input.
Bottom Line: The VTech Innotab 2 gets a high recommendation from Mom Always Finds Out! Your kids will love using their very own tablet for hours of learning and fun.
