Safety 1st Cubikals Stack n’ Play Block Sets are an innovative twist on the classic building block toys. You can build and stack Cubikals just like other blocks, plus play with them in lots of other creative ways. Each block has something different inside (an object, an animal, shapes, an alphabet or numerical character), colorful picture stickers on top, and textured sides and bottom. We received several of the themed block sets (Sports, BBQ/Picnic, School) along with the challenge to create something with our blocks.
Have I mentioned that this challenge was part of a blogger contest? And the winner of the contest will get a Safety 1st Cubikals toys prize package for one of their readers that includes Jump n’ Jive Copter, Down on the Farm Playset, Wiggle n’ Go Vehicle, and a 6-Block Set? YES, the pressure was on me because I really want to win these great toys for YOU!
My kids and I played together with our Cubikals blocks for several days to help get my creative juices flowing. Our first attempt at making a steam engine train did not work out so well once I realized that creating round wheels out of square blocks is physically impossible. We had fun trying to make a train, though.
I knew I needed to come up with a new idea that my children would love to help me build…that’s when I had what I like to call my
Iron Giant Inspirational Moment!
All those hours spent watching The Iron Giant movie over and over with my boys has finally paid off! I knew the Cubikals would be perfect for building a robot and all it would take was a little bit of help from my hot glue gun to help them to stick together.
Once inspiration hit, it didn’t take long for the robot to take shape. Since I was using the hot glue gun, I made the kids sit on the sidelines and watch me build. They were actually pretty fascinated with my building block skills. I’ve been playing with building blocks for more than thirty years, so I have to admit I’m getting pretty good at it. The Cubikals have those cute little people and objects inside of them, so I really wanted to build the robot in a way that lets you see and touch what’s inside each of them.
Meet Our Robot:
My 2 (almost 3) year old loves to play with his new robot friend!
Even if our robot doesn’t win the contest, I’d call this challenge a success because my kids and I spent lots of quality play time together.
