When you shop around for bedding, you may wonder why we need mattress covers, bed skirts and satin pillowcases. I know they may look pretty and feel good, but do we really need them? Are they just fashionable or do they actually have a function, too? I have researched and found out about some of the benefits of mattress covers, bed skirts, and satin pillowcases. You may be surprised to learn just how useful these items can be!
Mattress covers can perform several functions, including
- Protect Your Mattress
- Extend The Life of Your Mattress
- Make Your Mattress More Comfortable
- Protect you from Allergens and Bedbugs
Another piece of bedding you may have thought was just for looks is the bed skirt. Bed skirts do help add style to a bedroom’s decor, but did you know that they also serve a practical purpose? Yes, a bed skirt can prevent dust and allergens from collecting underneath your bed. This helps lower the chances that your mattress will attract dust mites and bedbugs. Bed skirts are also great for hiding all the storage items I like to put under my bed!
Although it has not been scientifically proven, many articles suggest that satin pillowcases are great for healthy hair and skin. Satin’s smoothness causes less friction between the hair and the pillowcase than cotton, so hair will experience less breakage. Similarly, skin will experience less creases and wrinkles after a night spent sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Satin is hypo-allergenic, which means satin pillowcases are a good choice for allergy sufferers too.
It was definitely interesting for me to learn about these practical functions of bedding I used to consider “non-essential” items. What about you? Do you use a mattress cover to keep the bedbugs out? Or bed skirts to hide any secrets under the bed? Are satin pillowcases keeping your skin wrinkle-free? Let me know in the comments.
