Top Halloween “Scary” Movies For Children and Families

October 4, 2011 by Nicole

The Halloween season is prime time for watching “scary” movies. My kids think they want to watch something scary, but in reality, I know it doesn’t take much more than an actor wearing a white sheet to cause them to have nightmares for a month.

Here is a list of some of my family’s favorite Halloween “Scary” Movies, along with some personal age recommendations. We have watched each of these movies (multiple times) in the past, so I don’t mind recommending them to you as good ones to watch with your family. However, please use your own best judgment when it comes to the scary movies you let your children watch.

Monsters, Inc.

ALL AGES (2 AND UP)

Monster House
AGES 7 AND UP

Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktakular

AGES 3 AND UP

Scary Godmother 2: The Revenge of Jimmy

AGES 3 and up

Scared Shrekless

AGES 3 and up

Monsters Vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins Outer Space

AGES 3 and up

Spooky Buddies

Ages 7 and up. (I was surprised this movie is a bit scary for younger kids!)

Goosebumps – The Haunted Mask II

The Goosebumps series is full of fun and spine-tingling tales. This one is especially appropriate for Halloween viewing.
Ages 8 and up.

The Haunted Mansion

Ages 5 and up.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Ages 3 and up. Even the adults like this one!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – Mickey’s Treat

Ages 2 and up.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

All ages. Halloween CLASSIC!

What are your family’s favorite Halloween “Scary” movies? Do you know of any movies that need to be on this list? Feel free to add any in the comments that I may have missed!
