A book series that features a tractor and farm animals? Those are some of my son’s favorite things, so I wasn’t surprised when he sat down and let me read two Tractor Mac books in a row! He is four years old, which falls in the middle of the Tractor Mac books recommended age range (2-7 years). The adventures of Tractor Mac and his friends on the farm teach young children important lessons about friendship, teamwork, the joy of winning, and how to lose gracefully. The stories also paint an accurate picture of life on a farm.
We live in a rural area, so we see lots of cows and horses out in the pastures. Reading about Tractor Mac and his friends is exciting for my son because he can relate the book illustrations to the things he sees in real life. He especially loves it when the farm animals talk. We haven’t met any talking farm animals in real life, but I do love when he uses his imagination!
You don’t need to be familiar with farms to enjoy Tractor Mac’s adventures. Kids will learn a lot about farm life as well as lessons they can apply to their own lives. I really liked a theme found in Tractor Mac New Friend about setting small goals to reach big ones. What a great concept for kids to learn when they are still young.
Introduce your little boys and girls to Tractor Mac and his friends from Stony Meadow Farm. A good place to start is with Tractor Mac Arrives at the Farm. This is the first book in the series, so we get to see events surrounding Tractor Mac’s arrival at the farm. The series began in 1999 and has just gotten a fresh new design. There are also brand new books you will want to add to your child’s library.
You can learn more about Tractor Mac books by Billy Steer, make a purchase, download Tractor Mac coloring pages and more at the Tractor Mac website. I found a Fun Fact on the website that says each book has a character that shows up on every page. Next time we read a Tractor Mac book, we are going to be sure to look!

Tractor Footprint Craft
Materials Needed:
- White Paper
- Red Paint
- Foam Brush
- 2 Black Circles (for Tractor Tires) *One circle should be smaller than the other because a tractor’s front tire is smaller than the back tire.
- 2 Red Circles (for inside the Black Circle Tractor Wheels) *One circle should be smaller than the other. Use the smaller circle for the front tire.
- Glue Stick
Directions:
1. Use a foam brush to paint the bottom of the child’s foot with red paint.
2. Carefully press the child’s foot onto the paper and lift it off, leaving a red paint footprint. Allow paint to dry.
3. Use a glue stick to attach the black circles on the footprint. Place one circle (the smaller black circle) at the heel of the print. Place the other circle near the toes/ball of the foot area. Use a glue stick to attach a red circle in the middle of each black circle. Now your tractor tires are complete.
4. Use a black marker to draw a steering wheel and tractor seat, and any other tractor features you want to add to your tractor footprint.
We had so much fun making the Tractor Footprint Craft. Turns out, the bottom of my son’s foot is super ticklish. He loved for me to paint his foot so it would tickle. Both of us were laughing by the time we got his footprint on paper. Once it was dry, he helped me glue on the tractor wheels. Then I used a black marker to add Tractor Mac’s seat and steering wheel. The Tractor Mac diagram found inside the book cover helped me know what to draw.
