Beat the Heat With Water Gun Games | Outdoor Fun For Kids of All Ages

nerf water gun games

Water gun games are the perfect way to beat the heat! Outdoor summer fun doesn’t get much simpler than this. All you need is water plus your choice of water guns or Nerf Super Soakers. We recently got a Nerf Zombie Strike Super Soaker and it is pretty awesome. The Zombie Strike blasters can shoot up to 30 feet! Plus they have a really cool water tank that lights up – perfect for a nighttime versions of the water gun tag game idea listed below.

Enjoy playing water games at outdoor parties, family reunions and even just to have everyday fun with your friends. Let me know what you think and share your best water gun game ideas with us in the comments below.

Beach Ball Race. You’ll need an inflatable beach ball and water gun for each player. Designate a Starting Line and a Finish Line. To begin, line up the beach balls on the Starting Line. On “Go”, everyone shoots their balls with their water guns. The first ball over the finish line wins.

Fizzy Necklace Targets. You’ll need a water gun and an Alka-Seltzer necklace for each player. Make necklaces by making a small hole through an Alka-Seltzer tablet with a needle and putting it on a string. Have players put on their necklaces and try to dissolve other player’s necklaces by spraying them with water.

Freeze Water Gun Tag. You’ll need one water-gun. Select one player to be “It”. Give “It” the water gun, and on “Go” have “It” try to tag the other players by squirting them. Whoever gets tagged becomes frozen until another player crawls between their legs.

Classic Water Gun Fight. You’ll need a water gun for each player. Hand out the guns, and let them go after each other. Easy-peazy and fun!

Water Gun Capture The Flag . You’ll need a water gun for each player and two water balloons. Divide players into two teams. Each team must defend a water balloon (instead of a flag) while trying to capture (and pop) the other team’s water balloon. Tag the other team members by squirting them to “freeze” them. “Frozen” players can be “thawed” and continue playing the game if they get squirted again with a teammate’s water gun.

Nighttime Water Gun Tag. You’ll need a Nerf Zombie Strike Super Soaker with the water tank light on so that players can see it coming. Select one player to be “It”. Give “It” the water gun, and on “Go” have him try to tag the other players by squirting them. Whoever gets tagged becomes “It” and is given the gun.

Carnival Style Target Practice. You will need one water gun and plastic cups. Stack plastic cups into a pyramid shape. Use the water gun’s water stream to knock them down.

Helium Balloon Targets: You will need a water gun and several helium balloons. Tie each balloon to a weight using a string at least 4-5 feet long. Try to hit the balloon with the water stream from as far away as you can get. We fill our own balloons using a small helium tank like this one.

Watercolor Fun: You will need one water gun per player, and liquid watercolors. Fill water guns with watercolors and have a colorful water fight while wearing white t-shirts. See who has the most colorful t-shirt by the end of the game.

Bonus Idea: Sponge Ball Fight: It is easy to turn household sponges into fun sponge balls. Check out this DIY Sponge Ball tutorial. Fill up a large plastic container with water, toss in a few sponge balls, and you are ready for a fun water battle! “Re-load” the sponges with water from the container.
