Life has its ups and downs, that’s true. Sometimes I think that it is easier to appreciate Life’s “Ups” when we have experienced some of Life’s “Downs.” Do you agree?
During the past year, my family has relocated a couple of times. The first move was the biggest – several thousand miles from Alaska to Utah. Once we made the decision to move, we had less than six weeks to sell our house and just about everything we owned and somehow get ourselves on a plane to Utah. We were more than halfway through the school year, and I think I stressed out about taking my son out of his school more than he did.
It was sad having to sell the house we had just built and barely moved into months earlier. It was sad watching our furniture and other possessions be carried out the door to go home with strangers. Even though the move was supposed to be a positive change, we went through a lot of bittersweet and stressful moments. It is scary to move!
Let me fast forward to the present time. We have moved to our permanent (at least for now!) home in Utah in a small town that we enjoy. The weather here is so much warmer than Alaska that I cannot even describe how much easier my life has become. The kids adjusted to new schools in about 5 minutes (why was I so worried about that?). We are all making friends and enjoying life closer to our extended family members. Although mine are still a couple thousand miles away…just about anywhere is closer to them than Alaska.
I would say we are living the good life right now. We are happy and healthy, and we have a home. That is something to celebrate every day.
We have all been through life’s ups and downs. It can feel so good to overcome the fear and doubt of the down times so we can recognize the good times. That’s what the new Allstate Good Life is about.

Living in Alaska sounds sort of dreamy, but I can understand why you feel things are easier for you now. My sister lived in Alaska with her husband; after they divorced she moved back to Boston. It was so much easier for her to start a new life when she was close to all her old friends and family members. I think she is living a good life now!
