TIME for Kids provided us with a review copy of the Awesome America book. All opinions expressed within the blog post are 100% my own.
Summer activities keep us so busy, that sometimes we forget to make time for summer reading. One way I like to help my kids get in more reading time is by bringing books with us when we go on road trips.
My kids are into all sorts of books from chapter books to graphic novels. They also enjoy books with fun facts. When we are together in the car, they can read books to themselves and then share what they have read out loud with the rest of us. Most of the time we end up having great conversations about the books they read – especially the ones with cool facts.
I have found that it helps motivate my kids to read educational books when we do things like:
- Pick books that are about a subject or activity that interests them.
- Pick books about a place we are going to visit on vacation.
- Pick books about an activity or holiday we celebrate. For example, we celebrate the 4th of July. The Independence Day holiday is the perfect time to read books about the United States and American History.

I would love to take a weeks long road trip across America and see all of the historical sites and natural landmarks. We all know about the Roman and Greek ruins throughout Western Europe, or the Pyramids in Egypt, but we forget how much America has to offer.
