BasicTalk Internet Home Phone Service

September 15, 2013 by Nicole

BasicTalk provided product for this review and giveaway as part of the BasicTalk blog ambassador program. My BasicTalk review is an honest opinion based on my own experience and has not been reviewed or edited by BasicTalk.

basic talk logoEven though most people carry mobile phones, a lot of families like the convenience of a home phone line. Phone and cable companies charge a lot for home phone services. There is a new, more affordable way to have a home phone line. BasicTalk is only $9.99 a month (plus taxes and government fees) with no annual contract or hidden fees.

BasicTalk runs over your existing high-speed Internet connection and is a reliable alternative to costly home phone service offered by traditional carriers and cable companies, with average annual savings of more than $430.

BasicTalk Phone review

You get all the features you like in a home phone, including:

  • Crystal clear sound
  • Voicemail
  • Caller ID
  • Call Waiting
  • 911 emergency service

You can even keep your current number! Most numbers can be transferred to BasicTalk. Find out about your number under basic tools and the Keep Your Number tab.

All you need for BasicTalk to work in your home is:

Wired high speed internet, an internet router, an active email address, a US billing/shipping address, and a payment method (credit, debit, or checking) that is associated with a U.S. billing address.

There is no extra software to install on your computer.

BasicTalk is EASY to install.

I recently received the BasicTalk Box™ so I could try the BasicTalk service. It is a small device that is SO EASY to install. All I had to do was connect the BasicTalk Box™ to my router and my phone was ready to make calls! It literally took longer for me to open the box and get the BasicTalk Box™ out than it did for me to hook it up and dial my first call. I’m talking less than 2 minutes.

Besides saving money on your home phone bills, I think one of the biggest advantages of BasicTalk is that you can take your BasicTalk Box™ with you anywhere you travel and you can use it virtually anywhere there is a high speed internet connection. You can’t do that with traditional home phone services!

My BasicTalk Box™ was up and running in no time. I was able to make local and long distance calls and got crystal clear sound on all of them. I compared the cost to what my local phone company charges for a landline, and the BasicTalk plan is nearly half the cost per month. That is unbeatable savings!

The only potential downside I can think of for BasicTalk is that if my Internet is down, my home phone would not work. Or if the power goes out. Luckily, those things don’t happen very often and if they do, I can use my cell phone. The potential money savings of using BasicTalk home service are definitely a huge advantage. I learned that there is no extra charge to keep your current number and that you cannot send faxes using Basic Talk. Additionally outbound international calling is not offered with the BasicTalk calling plan. Thanks for the giveaway.

I like that you can transfer your number and it takes 7 to 10 business days

The unlimited calling is a huge plus for me since I moved out of state and all of my family is away from me now.

The Basic Talk rate of $9.99 a month is great. I also think that even I could hook up the box to my phone thanks to the informational video. Thanks

I learned that there is a company out there that can offer rates to me way better than my cable provider!!! Thanks again

I learned and love how easy it is to install and how economic it is. I spend 72.00 a month just for my phone and internet. My TV service is another 72.00 a month. I don’t understand why we can’t get basic TV, phone and the internet for 50.00 or less. If you know then let me know?
