Pumpkins. Big pumpkins, little pumpkins, real pumpkins, fake pumpkins. It seems like pumpkins are scattered everywhere this time of year. I trip over half a dozen just trying to get up my front steps! But…I wouldn’t have it any other way because I love to decorate with pumpkins in the fall.

I love to carve and decorate Michaels craft pumpkins because if I do it once, it is a decoration that will last year after year. You know what happens when you carve REAL pumpkins. They get moldy and rot. Don’t get me wrong, I love real pumpkins, but let’s face it, they are not reusable year after year.
Thumbtack Spider Pumpkin Craft
This year, I tried out a no carve pumpkin decorating idea. It’s very simple. All you need is a craft pumpkin, a pencil and a couple hundred thumbtacks. A spider template or a fake spider decoration can be used to trace an outline onto the pumpkin if you do not want to freehand draw a spider shape.
I used spray paint to color my silver thumbtacks black for the large white pumpkin. I was able to find black pushpins to use on the smaller copper-colored pumpkin. By the way, I spray painted a small orange craft pumpkin with copper spray paint from Michaels.
We found a fake plastic spider decoration that was about the size I wanted the spider on my pumpkins to be. I used a pencil to trace an outline of the fake spider onto the pumpkins. Then, I started sticking thumbtacks into the pumpkin along the pencil lines. I pushed them as closely together as possible.
It did not take me long to make this easy Halloween craft. I added my craft pumpkins to my pile of real pumpkins. I think the contrasting pumpkin colors and spider pumpkins add interest to the group.
Be sure to #TrickYourPumpkin this year and enter to win a $250 Michaels gift card in the Trick Your Pumpkin Sweepstakes!
