Before we get to the deviled egg recipe, we have to hard boil some eggs. I don’t know about you, but I get a little nervous every time I have to hard boil eggs. I have accidentally undercooked them in the past.
The worst part about undercooking eggs is that once you crack them open to find out, it’s too late to do anything about it. Banish undercooked hardboiled eggs forever with this easy method!
How To Hard Boil an Egg:
- Place eggs in a single layer in saucepan.
- Add enough water to completely cover eggs by at least one inch.
- Bring water to a boil; Cover.
- Remove saucepan from heat; Let stand 15 minutes.
- Drain eggs and immediately place in a bowl of ice water.
- Allow eggs to cool completely, changing water if necessary.
A perfectly hardboiled egg will be firm and yellow in the middle, without a greenish tinge.
Now that you know how to get your hard boiled eggs done just right, you need an easy deviled egg recipe.
This Spicy Deviled Egg recipe is ready in minutes, and is just the thing to serve at your spring parties.
MIRACLE WHIP gives this recipe a sweet and tangy flavor that turns ordinary deviled eggs into something extraordinary.
SPICY DEVILED EGG RECIPE
PREP TIME: 15 min. | TOTAL TIME: 15 min. | MAKES: 24 servings
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 12 hard-cooked eggs
- 2/3 cup MIRACLE WHIP Dressing
- 2 tsp. GREY POUPON Dijon Mustard
- 1 jalapeño peppers, seeded & finely diced
MAKE IT:
- CUT eggs lengthwise in half. Remove yolks; place in medium bowl. Mash with fork.
- ADD remaining ingredients; mix well.
- SPOON into egg whites. Sprinkle with paprika. Garnish with additional jalapeno slices, if desired.
Not sure how to put the filling into your deviled eggs? No problem! Simply spoon the egg yolk mixture into small resealable plastic bag. Cut a small corner from the bottom of bag and use it to pipe filling into egg white halves.
How to Serve Deviled Eggs
Just for fun, I arranged my spicy deviled eggs to look like a flower using sliced black olives, green onion stems and spinach leaves.
Then I tried making butterflies, too. Those were easy – I just used a jalapeno pepper for the body and used the deviled eggs as butterfly wings.

Thanks so much, Nicole! You are too sweet. It actually all came about because I don’t have one of those special plates that are made to hold deviled eggs. LOL I used to think I needed one of those – but I think making egg flowers and butterflies is a more fun way to go. Plus helps make my table look cute and decorated. 🙂

I think I use that same method to hard-boil eggs. I don’t make them too often so it’s always a guessing game when I do. It always seems like a tedious process to me, but maybe it’s because I take too much time. Props to anyone who makes them often enough to know exactly how long to boil them and what looks like a perfect hard-boiled egg. I think I love the look of the deviled eggs as flower petals and butterfly wings more than the deviled eggs themselves. Too cute!
Nicole says
Thanks for the compliments! I am like you – rarely make the hardboiled eggs. I have to look up directions every time I do it. I think Easter is the only time I know for sure I make them. Somehow these eggs are a tradition at our family dinner.
Christy Peeples DuBois says
I love deviled eggs and this is a different recipe I bet my Mother would love. Also, we, my Mother, me and various friends and family, every once in a while have discussions about how to boil eggs. My mom and I have been doing it like you said for some time and no longer have a problem with the eggs at all.
Diane Cooper says
I am so thrilled to have stumbled upon this post! My family loves deviled eggs and asks for them often. Now I know how to get my eggs to turn out right every time instead of every once in a while. I love the tip about putting my egg yolk mixture in a resealable bag! I usually make a huge mess. This will make preparing deviled eggs for my family much more enjoyable!
Nicole says
I also love the egg filling in a baggie trick. It works great for frosting cupcakes, too (with frosting – not egg filling, LOL). I didn’t think about using it for deviled eggs until I read the MIRACLE WHIP suggestions. Hope your eggs turn out great this year!

Amber Edwards says
This is the husband’s favorite way to eat an egg. I’m not an egg person…not since my fist pregnancy and I ate eggs at the “WRONG” time in the pregnancy…you know…morning sickness. I haven’t been able to touch an egg since. /cry. But the husband LOVES deviled eggs and the spicier the better!
Nicole says
I know exactly what you mean about eating things at the wrong time. I used to love teriyaki chicken…until I ate it at the wrong time. Now I no longer enjoy it. And it was my FAVORITE. It’s so unfair. I liked that using the fresh jalapenos with this recipe added a crunch and a little spice but it wasn’t too “hot” of a spice. Sometimes deviled eggs can be bland, but these made with MIRACLE WHIP are tasty.
Maryann D. says
I never boil eggs properly, so I do appreciate the help. My family does not eat deviled eggs but I do think these in the photos are adorable and terrific for the holidays!
