I received the following information and assets for free from Walt Disney Studios. All opinions expressed are my own. This blog post may contain affiliate links.
I love to go to the movies. And I like to get there early not just to get a good seat, but also to watch all of the movie previews. It’s nice to know what movies we have to look forward to in the future. I’m thrilled because Walt Disney Studios sent me a lineup of their 2014 movies and it looks like there is an exciting year ahead!
I know the kids will be over-the-moon happy to hear there is another PLANES movie coming out in July. And since Breaking Bad ended, I have been having Aaron Paul withdrawals…luckily the Need For Speed opens in March. Catch Mad Men’s Jon Hamm on the big screen this summer, too! There are a ton of movies coming out, have you heard of them yet? Which Disney films do you plan to see in 2014?
First up is The Wind Rises. This Japanese animated film opens February 14. Click to view the trailer.
March 14 is unofficially called Aaron Paul Day at my house. Go see him in Need For Speed. Here’s the trailer.
The Muppets are back in theaters on March 21 with Muppets: Most Wanted. And this time, Tina Fey is with them. I love her! Also starring Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell. Watch the Muppets trailer.
If Captain America is your favorite Marvel hero, you’ll want to hit theaters April 4 for the latest installment. The Winter Soldier trailer.
Disneynature’s BEARS movie opens on Earth Day (April 18). Remember to go see BEARS during opening week because it supports a charitable cause, The National Park Foundation, which protects our wildlife and wild places. Love this trailer!
Million Dollar Arm is a biographical sports movie inspired by the true story of a down-and-out sports agent who resorts to an unconventional recruiting strategy. In theaters May 16. Trailer.
Ever since I heard about Angelina Jolie and her starring role in Maleficent, it has been on my must-see list. It’s the “Sleeping Beauty” tale told from the perspective of Maleficent, the villainous character who curses Princess Aurora. Opens May 30. View the trailer.
Fasten your seatbelts, kids. Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue lands in theaters July 18. Sorry, there’s no teaser trailer out just yet. But I’ll be sure to post it once it’s released.
So I just learned about on of the most anticipated films of 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy. This Marvel-based film stars Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana and Vin Diesel. No trailer yet for this film opening August 1. It’s about a jet pilot who gets stranded in space and must unite a diverse team of aliens to save the galaxy.
Obviously the photo above is not The Hundred-Foot Journey movie’s official poster. But it is relevant to the production. This drama is based on a novel, The Hundred-Foot Journey written by Richard C. Morais. Helen Mirren stars in this movie produced by Steven Spielberg (uncredited), Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake. I’m going to have to read the book before this film opens August 8.
I love that the children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day has been adapted to a movie. This has been one of my kids’ favorites for years. Sure, Alexander wakes up with gum in his hair and his day gets progressively worse. But how terrible can life be when your dad is the always amazing Steve Carell? (And your mom is Jennifer Garner?!) This is a movie I’ll be excited to go see with my kids. Opens October 10.
Can’t get enough of Marvel? Big Hero 6 is an upcoming 3D computer-animated superhero film based on the Marvel Comics. Opening November 7.
McFarland is the second sports-related film this year from Walt Disney Studios. This time, the sport is track and involves a California coach who transforms a team into champion contenders. Stars Kevin Costner and opens November 7 (no photo available).
Into the Woods opens Christmas Day 2014. Another fairy tale-related film for the year! This time about a witch who conspires to teach important lessons to various characters of popular children’s stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel. Starring Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, and Emily Blunt.
And there you have it, the 2014 Walt Disney Studios movie lineup. I hope you have marked your calendars and are ready for an amazing year at the movies. I recently found out that we can buy discounted movie tickets at Costco – that helps my family of 6 save money on entertainment costs. Just thought I’d pass that tip along to you. How do you save money at the movies?

Thanks for the heads up about these great movies. I don’t have kids but I confess I do watch kiddy movies now and then. And the Jon Hamm and Helen Mirren movies look like a must-see.
