There’s no need to wait for birthday parties for an excuse to eat cupcakes. Cupcakes are my go-to dessert when it comes to baking something I know will appeal to adults and kids alike. No one can resist a cupcake, especially when it’s topped with delicious new Cool Whip Frosting. It’s light and fluffy like the original Cool Whip, but it’s made especially for frosting cakes and cupcakes. Last week was my turn to supply the snacks for a Cub Scout meeting, so we headed out to Walmart to buy the ingredients I needed to make Reese’s Cup cupcakes topped with Chocolate Cool Whip Frosting.
It’s definitely fall, ya’ll! I love the big pumpkin display out in front of Walmart. They are selling out fast, there were about a million pumpkins out there just a few days ago. My three big kids stayed at home with dad, so the baby and I grabbed a cart and set out to find the first item on our list, the new Cool Whip Frosting. Walmart sells it in the freezer section with the other Cool Whip products and frozen desserts.
See the cute little containers of Cool Whip Frosting? My store carries two flavors: Chocolate and Vanilla.
I couldn’t decide which flavor to try first, so I bought them both!
At home, I got out all the other ingredients we needed to make our special cupcakes. It’s actually a pretty healthy recipe that uses seltzer water and yogurt instead of oil and eggs. Oh yeah, and each cupcake does have a mini-Reese’s cup baked in the middle, but those are healthy, too, right? Kinda – Sorta? Whatever. They taste good!
My little mini-chef was such a good helper. He loves to bake. The Cool Whip Frosting is so easy to spread on cakes and cupcakes, perfect for kids to use. Plus, if you have ever frosted a cake with Cool Whip, you know it hides any imperfections (my cakes tend to be a little lopsided) and doesn’t get crumbs in it like regular frosting does when you try to spread it on.
And there you have it, our Reese’s Cup chocolate cupcakes with Cool Whip frosting! Most of this batch is going out to the Cub Scouts meeting, where I know the boys will devour them all.
The light texture of Cool Whip Frosting helps keep this chocolatey dessert from being too rich. We will definitely have to find another excuse to make cupcakes again real soon!

I wonder if any would ever make it on my cake or if I would stand with the refrigerator open, eating straight from the tub with a giant spoon- ya know, like I do with cool whip!
Nicole says
I’m the same way (eating Cool Whip with the spoon). You need to try the frosting – it’s just like that except I think it may even be better!

The peanut butter cup is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Melissa! The kids love PB cups so I thought I’d experiment with this idea. It was fun. 🙂

These cup cakes look tasty/and the hidden surprise of Reese’s inside, topped with Coolwhip frosting. Can’t wait to make these. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for stopping by! The trick for the Reese’s is not to push them down too far into the batter, they sink automatically as it bakes. 🙂

YUM!!! and I’ve tried this cool whip icing- I ate some from a can AND Annette made some delicious cupcakes for the office one day for Gwen, Lauren’s bulldog. ;)) I bet your boys love them! YUM!

I ate it right out of the can too, it is so good. I’d almost rather have the icing than the cupcake! LOL
