The Neighbors’ Scary #Halloween Decorations are Freaking Out My Kids

October 5, 2012 by Nicole

I have had to reroute the carpool this week to exclude some houses whose Halloween decorations are totally freaking out my kids. To be honest with you, they freak me out a little bit too. Freddy Krueger, Mike Myers and Jason would probably not want to walk past any of these houses at night. Seriously, these people have taken outdoor Halloween decor to the next level. I’m not complaining, I’m actually quite impressed by the enthusiastic display of Halloween spirit.

How do you decorate for Halloween? Do you go for the “scare-the-living daylights out of neighborhood kids” look like these homes in my area?

I think the life size monsters in the yard and standing on the roof give are so creepy! There is NO WAY I am trick or treating here on a dark Halloween night! My innocent Jack o’ Lanterns, cheesy Halloween music CDs and strobe lights have got NOTHING on these homes…check ’em out:

My kids would make me go by the house as many times a day as possible. They love Halloween, and decorations for the most part don’t scare them..movies, haunted houses we avoid unless No Scare

That is so funny – my oldest tries to pretend scary Halloween decorations and Goosebumps shows don’t scare him, but we have already had 3 nights where he wakes up and won’t go back to sleep unless the lights are on in his room. I think I’m about to have to ban the Goosebumps show so he will be able to sleep.

WoW they did go all out decorating, great pics, sorry to hear you have to drive another route but I can understand how small kids would be overwhelmed seeing this, it is pretty spooky -even a little bit for us grownups I used to put up a few decorations when my kids were younger but nothing like that,
I love Halloween its always been my favorite but it has gotten quite a bit more dramatic over the years
    Happy Halloween 🙂

I love them! Wish I could afford to decorate like that, no cheesy decorations here though.

Wow! Your neighbors are SERIOUS! Those would definitely scare my kids. We don’t decorate for Halloween. We do more of a harvest/fall theme. The kids get cute and fun costumes though. Love your blog.

This is our first Halloween in this area, and I have never lived anywhere so into the holiday. I am wondering if there is some sort of contest I don’t know about – people are really going all out! Thank you for stopping by and your kinds words. Happy Halloween!

I prefer to decorate our lawn and home in a more lighthearted spooktacular way. I love the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World. It never frightened me as a child, in part because it was full of “silly spooks” and not blood-thirsty nightmares. I just posted a few photos on my blog from last year for a look back at Halloween 2011: http://magicaldaddy.com/2012/10/03/almost-wordless-wednesday-revisiting-halloween-2011/. We’re still decorating for this year, but I’ll be sharing photos as we get closer to my favorite holiday. 🙂

Hi Bob, Thanks for sharing your link and feel free to post yours to this year’s decorating if you get the chance so we can all stop by and check it out. I agree – I like the Disney style of scary. No nightmares for the kids! Happy Halloween!
