The Center for Science in Public Restaurants (CSPI) recently investigated the nutritional quality of kids meals at the top 50 chain restaurants in America. They found that chicken fingers, burgers and french fries make up the majority of kids meal choices – and 97% of the 3,500+ kids meal possibilities FAIL to meet CSPI’s nutritional guidelines.
One restaurant chain stood out…WAY OUT…from the others because their ENTIRE Kids Menu (8 choices) meets the CSPI standard. The ONLY restaurant that offers a Healthy Kids Meals is SUBWAY.
SUBWAY Restaurants wants to let you know about their commitment to nutrition. They are always striving to improve their menus for both adults and children, which offer a variety of great tasting sandwiches and salads that are trans-fat free, and low in saturated fat and cholesterol, including those on the SUBWAY FRESH FIT and SUBWAY FRESH FIT FOR KIDS menus with 6 grams of fat or less.
What You Can Expect in a SUBWAY FRESH FIT FOR KIDS Meal:
All eight children’s meals include a 4” sub, apple slices and low-fat milk or bottled water. This amounts to less than 430 calories, less than 35% fat, 0 % trans fat, 35% added sugars and 770 mg of sodium, and meet both the expert and industry nutrition standards (CSPI’s and the National Restaurant Association’s Kids LiveWell Nutrition Standards).
Subway has partnered with the National Institutes of Health to fight childhood obesity.

Now, all they need is to have playgrounds, the way that McDonald’s and Burger King used to always do! That would be so much fun!

I knew Subway was a good restaurant to eat at. I love their sandwiches. They have a variety of them. That is good to know that this is a good place to take our kids. I am going their with my sister and my niece and nephew on Spring break this week.

I think it is great that the Subway restaurant chain haas healthy meals for children. The 4″ sub sounds a litlle small, doesn’t it?

We love Subway. It is one of our families favorites! But I will be honest and say it is not the Only fast food restaurant we go to. We don’t go out to eat often. Maybe once a month. Who can really afford to take an entire family out to eat all the time. There are times that we are in a time crunch with two working parents and busy kids schedules that we do hit a drive thru. That is the reality of the world today. It is very hard to juggle everything. I feel like if we make good choices at home, then the occasional fast food is fine.
