Have you ever been in a store and noticed someone (usually a kid) whiz right past you as though they were wearing skates – but when you looked down at their feet, it seemed that they had on a normal pair of street shoes? Well, they were likely wearing Heelys, which are shoes with skate wheels. They allow the user to transform from a walk to a skate. Heelys are very popular with kids, teens and even adults these days. My 8-year-old son was very happy to learn that he would get a pair of Heelys skate shoes for review.
We learned that a neat thing about Heelys is that they can change from skates to street shoes in a matter of a couple minutes or less. The wheels easily snap into the bottom of the shoe when you want to wear them to skate. Each pair of Heelys comes with a simple tool that pops the wheels out when you are ready to wear them as normal shoes. Once the wheels are popped out, you stick a little plug into the hole and they are ready to walk.
Since my son had never skated before, he definitely needed to watch Heely’s Skating 101 video for tips on how to skate, as well as helpful information on wearing safety gear. He put on his Heelys and was ready to roll!
He quickly found out that skating isn’t quite as easy as it looks, but is working on his Heelys skills. Once you are proficient, you can even learn how to do skate tricks! My son enjoys wearing his Heelys as street shoes to school because they look cool.
