Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA Omega-3

November 4, 2011 by Nicole

Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA Omega-3 is a healthy choice for families.  My family recently tried the Whole Milk variety (you can also buy milk in Reduced Fat, Fat-Free and Lowfat Chocolate Milk versions).  We drink a lot of milk at our house and I wanted to try this kind because it contains healthy DHA Omega-3.

DHA Omega-3 is a nutrient that helps support a healthy brain, heart and eyes.  Studies show that most American children do not get enough DHA Omega-3 in their diets.  This is one way I can help boost my children’s DHA levels.  It’s also an important source of their Vitamin D.

Although fish oil is a a common source  for most DHA, Horizon Milk uses DHA from sustainable, plant-based sources.  This fact is of importance to me because I know my kids would not drink fishy-tasting milk.  The vegetarian source keeps Horizon’s milk flavor true, fresh and delicious.

Horizon has been producing organic products for more than 20 years.  Their current dairy offerings include milk, yogurt, cheese, cream and more.  Visit the Horizon website to learn more, find recipes and register for coupons.

According to my research Horizon adds this SYNTHETIC derivative to milk and its causing health issues in children. I suggest MOTHERS who truly love their children to get the facts and NOT believe everything they read.

Hi Janna, Thanks for your comment. It let me know to do some more of my own research about Horizon and its milk. I can’t seem to find any definitive research talking about the synthetic DHA fish oil causing health issues in children. However, I do agree that if Horizon is violating the Organic Foods Act by labeling the milk organic when it includes an unapproved/illegal ingredient, that is wrong and has definitely mislead consumers like me.
I hope that all parents will research any products their family uses. I’m happy that we have media outlets like blogs to help each other spread information that we may have otherwise missed in our own research. I have learned not to take for granted that an organic label on a product means it is truly organic. Thanks for sharing.
