How To Host a Perfect Holiday Cookie Exchange

December 13, 2011 by Nicole

I love holiday cookie exchange parties.  They are fun to do with family, friends and/or coworkers.  Have you ever been to one?  I was recently at a Twitter party where the topic of holiday cookie exchanges came up, and noticed there were quite a few people who didn’t know what a cookie exchange was all about.  Basically, it’s a get together where each attendee brings a huge batch of their favorite cookies (several dozen) and sets them out on a table to swap for a few of everyone else’s cookies.  At the end of a cookie exchange, you end up with lots of different kinds of cookies…and all you had to do was bake ONE kind.

Cookie exchanges are also a great way to find new cookie recipes because not only do people swap cookies, they swap the cookie recipes, too.

My girlfriends and I had our first annual girl’s night out cookie exchange last year and it’s time to do it again!  I’m always nervous about hosting an event at my house because I don’t want to forget to do anything in my party preparation process.  I found a wonderful blog post called 6 Steps for a Perfect Holiday Cookie Exchange Party! that has great tips to guide you as you plan your perfect holiday cookie exchange.

It’s not too late to plan a cookie exchange of your own this year.  It’s a festive and fun way to spend a few hours with friends during the holiday season.  An added bonus is that my family knows if I go to a cookie exchange, they will get to enjoy the dozens of delicious “party favors” I bring home.

Do you attend holiday cookie exchanges?  If you have any fun suggestions or tips, please feel free to leave them in the comments!

A cookie exchange is something I wish I had time to set up. We did one at Cub Scouts last year and I enjoyed having many different kinds of cookies in the house.

I LOVE this idea! I’m defiantly going to see if I can talk the hubby into letting me host one.

They are tons of fun – and it can really be as simple as you want. It’s a great way to get people together and have holiday fun without having to stress too much. I hope yours goes well! 🙂
