I can’t believe it’s that time of year again already! We got our LEGO catalog in the mail last week, reminding me that the LEGO Advent Calendars are on sale and it’s time to buy. The LEGO Advent Calendars are a holiday tradition at our house. We have so many LEGO fans here now that this may be the first year I have to purchase more than one set to avoid any feuds over who gets LEGO Santa Claus or the holiday-themed Star Wars minifigure.
It’s always hard for us to choose between the LEGO Advent Calendar options, anyway. There’s the more traditional holiday themed LEGO City Advent Calendar with 24 gifts behind each door to help create a holiday story:
…and there’s the Star Wars Advent Calendar that comes with 9 minifigures and 2 vehicles this year as part of the 24 days of Star Wars themed gifts:
In 2011, I got the boys the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. Even though it was a little pricey for a set of LEGOs, I just can’t put a price tag on how happy the boys were to open a new toy every day. Last year’s limited edition Yoda minifigure was my oldest son’s prize possession for a long time. The year before that, we got the LEGO City Advent Calendar and they enjoyed that one a lot, too. I really don’t think I can go wrong with either theme. I know some kids open all 24 days at once, but I am pretty strict on the “one door per day” rule at our house. My kids like to try to guess what toy will be behind the next day’s door.
This year, there is a third option: LEGO Friends Advent Calendar. The LEGO Friends are the girl LEGOs and a new theme for the Advent Calendars. The Advent Calendar set includes 2 exclusive mini-dolls that are not available in any other set!
Which LEGO Advent Calendar are you going to buy this year? Let us know in the comments!

We’re doing 2 this year… we did the City one last year and loved it, but eyeballed the Star Wars one too… some friends just bought us the Star Wars one at Legoland this summer, so now we’ll buy City as well. One for hubs, one for kiddo! LOL
I should get the Friends one for me! 🙂

Lizz! I’m glad to know I am not the only person getting two of these this year. You can never have too many LEGO Advent calendars. 🙂 One of each will be perfect and maybe the kids won’t all fight over the same pieces. Great idea to get the Friends one for Mom – my kids would love it if I played “girl” LEGOs. LOL
