Reading is one of the most important skills needed to survive in today’s world. I try to help my children develop a love of reading because the more they enjoy reading, the more they will read. The more they read, the better they will become at it.
Reading skills are vital to people’s success at school and in adult life. If you cannot read, you cannot go on to higher education and valuable opportunities in the working world. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn to read.
We develop a love for reading from a young age with our favorite Children’s Books.
My children range in age from 2 to 9 years old, so our home library has a wide variety of books that appeal to those ages. Some of their favorite baby/toddler books include classics like Goodnight Moon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. My 5-year-old loves the Pete the Cat series, and my 9-year-old reads and rereads the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. We set aside at least a few minutes every day (or night) and read together.

I think it is sad that many kids will graduate from high school still not reading on the level that they should be. How they manage to slip through the cracks is beyond me. It is sad really. This is a wonderful program and I do shop Dollar General regularly. Thanks for the coupon too!

What a great program! Unfortunately, there’s not a Dollar General store within a few hundred miles of here, so I can’t support their program, but we do support our local Literacy Volunteers.

It still astounds me how some American children – even adults – do not knoww how to read. Congrats to Dollar General for undertaking this cause.
