My husband and I didn’t become do-it-yourselfers until we bought our first home that needed a little bit of TLC to bring it up to livable standards. The minute the keys to our new home got handed to us, we drove straight over and proceeded to rip out every bit of the old, ugly, disgusting, stinky carpet. No matter that it was 9 o’clock at night on a snowy, freezing December night. We were ready to start the biggest home flooring renovation project we had ever taken on and didn’t want to waste another minute.
Once the “carpet demo” was finished and all the yucky old flooring lay in a heap outside the back door, we weren’t really sure what our next step was going to be. This would have been a great time for us to shop online for low price flooring at Floor and Decor. We knew we wanted to replace the carpet with a completely different type of flooring like hardwood or laminate. We also wanted to get a deal on the materials to help us save money.
Floor and Decor has a great variety of flooring options including porcelain, ceramic, stone, tile, wood and laminate. The prices are affordable and come with a Low Price Promise that means if you find the same product sold somewhere else for less, Floor and Decor will honor the lower price.
Installing a laminate floor in our home was a lot easier than we thought it would be. Yes, it took a weekend or two of our time and elbow grease, but the money we saved by doing the project ourselves helped us to make our house look a hundred times better without breaking our budget. The best part about our first DIY flooring project was that it taught us we could do home improvement projects ourselves without being experts. It was fun and we were really proud of ourselves and our new home when we were finished.
Would we do a total floor replacement project ourselves again? Yes, we would! And in fact, we have installed new flooring in other houses we have lived in. That first fixer-upper house of ours showed us that giving old floors a makeover is one of the best ways to make a house feel and look updated and new.
