Summer vacation is just starting and I really don’t want to hear those dreaded words, MOM…I’M BORED!!! I’m always looking for fun, simple and free activities for kids. Here are photos of how we have been spending our days together so far this summer. I hope you enjoy What We Did and maybe it can help you come up with ways to beat boredom at your house.
We made paper airplanes and visited our local airport. We all had fun watching the real planes take off and land. Do you have an airport near you? It’s a free place to visit that kids of all ages can enjoy.
We went for a carousel ride. I am finding out that there are lots of small local attractions if I dig around and look for things to do in our area. For example, a local hotel has this fun carousel! Is there a carousel in your town?
Nature walk. Our family loves to get outside, and we enjoyed a nature hike on an easy trail about 5 miles from our house. Do you have any hiking trails near you?
One of our favorite things to do is: Feed the ducks. We went to a local state park pond and fed the ducks. The ducks must have been getting fed a lot lately, because they weren’t that interested in eating our bread. Or maybe they prefer whole wheat. Oh well, we still had a good time!
Swimming. I consider this $15 pool one of the best investments I will make this summer. Even the big kids can splash in it to cool down. Best of all, we don’t even have to leave home to have fun.
What have you been doing for fun this summer? Let me know in the comments, we just may use your ideas as a boredom buster at our house next week!

The summer really doesn’t bring much change as both my husband and I work outside the home but we are able to do things like have dinner on the patio instead of inside.

I am sure your family never gets bored–you always have great ideas!
We are planning to visit the museum in our town on Saturday, because they have some fun family crafts planned in conjunction with the latest exhibit.
I’m sure we’ll need more boredom-busters this summer!

A museum and crafts sounds like fun. I haven’t tried taking my kids to a museum yet – putting that on my list! 🙂 Have fun this weekend!

The best things are free! We just go around and find some big boxes, and let the kids build whatever they want with them and some sheets! All day fun, for just some gas and time! The cat also likes hiding in their box cities. ;-P
