It’s time to get my preschooler ready for school, and a new pair of shoes is on our back-to-school shopping list. We headed to Target to check out Surprize by Stride Rite, a brand new line of baby and toddler shoes.
Surprize by Stride Rite is only sold at Target US stores and online. Stride Rite has been making stylish children’s shoes for a long, long time. Can you believe they started making shoes in 1919? That’s almost a hundred years ago!
My mom told me I learned to walk wearing Stride Rite shoes. Of course I don’t remember that far back, but I think it is fun to be able to carry on the Stride Rite tradition with my kids. The new Surprize line at Target gives parents everywhere an affordable way to put cute and comfy shoes on their little ones.
The Surprize for girls collection includes adorable Mary Jane styles for girls, as well as colorful tennies. Surprize for boys offers fun sneakers and boots.
All of the Surprize shoes have special features for increased comfort and durability. A generous fit and memory foam footbeds feel good on your little one’s feet. The shoes also have flexible soles to allow for a natural step. I especially like the durable rubber toes. It’s like Stride Rite knows how all of my kids’ shoes tend to get the most wear and tear right there in that spot. My son immediately pointed out the Darion (Navy/Gray) sneakers as his number one choice. Luckily, they still had a pair in his size. We tried on a couple of different sizes to make sure he got the right fit. Then we did our final fit test by letting him run up and down the store a few times. He think we are testing how fast the shoes can run, but really, I am just making sure they stay on his feet.
My Tips for Shoe Shopping with Picky Preschoolers
- Let your preschooler have a say in the shoes they want to wear. If they do not like the look of their shoes, they will not want to put them on every day.
- Limit your preschooler’s shoe choices. Too many options are overwhelming. Find one or two pairs that you would be willing to buy for them, and let them have the final decision.
- Measure your child’s foot with socks or tights on if that is how they will be wearing the shoe. (Measure in bare feet if they will wear the shoes without socks or tights.)
- Once you think you have the right fit, let your child walk around in the shoes for a few minutes. Make sure they can walk around comfortably without any complaints.
He couldn’t wait to hit the neighborhood when we got home from Target. Here he is, all decked out in his railroad conductor hat and new Surprize by Stride Rite shoes. You’ll also notice he likes to wear his backpack, loaded down with about 25 of his favorite toys.
Shop Surprize by Stride Rite at Target and let me know which ones your little one wants to wear.
