This movie is the second installment of a trilogy based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling Divergent book series. It has a PG-13 rating for intense violence and action throughout, and is geared towards viewers of all ages — not just teens and young adults. The Divergent Series: Insurgent will keep you on the edge of your seat with all the suspenseful and exciting scenes with lots intense stunts and visual effects. Parents, this would be a great choice of movie to go see with your teenagers.
If you are familiar with the books and/or have watched the first movie installment, you know that main characters Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo) are now on the run. They are being hunted down by the leader of the Erudite elite (Kate Winslet.) Their lives are on the line as they race against time searching for answers that will help them uncover the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
What I really love about this series is that the hero, Tris, is a strong female character. She doesn’t wait around for a guy – or anyone else for that matter – to save her. She’s brave and willing to stand up and fight for what she believes is right. Another great theme on display throughout the film is about embracing what makes you different from everyone else.
DATE NIGHT AT THE MOVIES!
My husband and I will go see this movie together. It’s got the thrills and excitement that will keep both of us entertained, as well as following along the Tris/Four relationship storyline, which I really like to see just as much or more than all the action. We recently re-watched the first film on DVD to refresh our memories on what is going on in Tris and Four’s world.
