I was given exclusive access by Time Warner Cable to sneak peek episodes of The Outlander. This new series is adapted from international bestselling books by Diana Galbadon. I recently started reading The Outlander series books, so I was totally excited at the chance to preview the TV series. If you love history, science fiction, romance and adventure – The Outlander combines all of these genres into one epic tale.
The books are set in Scotland, and producers of the TV series are actually filming on location there. (I am so happy they are doing that – Scotland’s countryside is beautiful, wild and full of mystery.) The series follows Claire Randall, a married combat nurse who served in World War II. She is mysteriously swept back in time from 1945 to 1743, where she finds herself in an unknown world and her life in serious danger. Claire is forced to marry a chivalrous, romantic and young Scottish warrior, Jamie. A passionate affair quickly ignites between them and Claire’s heart is torn between two extremely different men in two completely different lives.

If you have read the books, you know Claire is torn between Frank (living in 1945) and Jamie (living in 1743). I don’t know if there’s going to be an official Team Frank and a Team Jamie, but you can count me as a member of Team Jamie! He’s brave, handsome and strong, plus he would do anything for Claire. Sorry, no offense, Frank!
I am looking forward to watching the rest of The Outlander season one episodes. You will be hooked on the story after seeing the premiere. As a fan of the book series, I was happy that so far, the TV series does not make any sweeping changes to the storyline. The Outlander is very much recognizable to anyone who has ready the book.
It is especially fun to see which actors portray my favorite characters from the book. The beautiful Caitriona Balfe stars as Claire. I look forward to seeing how the rest of Claire and Jamie’s love story/adventures play out.
