10 Bingeworthy Shows to Watch this Summer

July 31, 2014 by Nicole 6 Comments

By day, I use my Intel tablet for work-related tasks: email, writing blog posts, etc. But by night, I use my tablet for entertainment. You have probably heard me mention my binge-watching habit before. I love to discover binge-worthy TV series to watch, while I’m propped up on a big stack of fluffy pillows in bed. There are several shows I have enjoyed catching up on this summer, and recommend to anyone who is looking for something to watch online.

#spon: I’m required to disclose a relationship between our site and Intel. This could include the Intel Corporation providing us w/content, product, access or other forms of payment.

You will want to binge-watch the rest of your summer away on these shows, before their next season starts this fall/winter! By the way, these shows are all currently available to watch on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video.

I’ll start with my favorite zombie show currently on television: AMC’s The Walking Dead. You have until October to catch up on previous seasons. I have heard this Fall’s season 5 premiere picks up right where we left off in last season’s finale. I can’t wait!

Longmire took me by surprise this summer. In a good way. I had never heard of it before, even though the 3rd season finishes up this August on A&E. This Western crime drama is set in Wyoming and it has been a fun show to watch.

Catch up on the first three seasons of ABC’s political drama, Scandal, before the season 4 premiere September 25. I’m a Grey’s Anatomy fan, and Scandal is the same type of guilty pleasure TV show indulgence for me. Both shows are created by Shonda Rimes.

I’m excited that FX has renewed The Americans for a third season. This show is an American television period drama series set in the Cold War period (1980s). It tells the story of 2 Soviet KGB officers posing as an American married couple living in the suburbs of Washington, DC with their unsuspecting children. An FBI counterintelligence agent just happens to be their neighbor!

Orphan Black is a BBC America science fiction show that just got renewed for a third season (for 2015). Tatiana Maslany stars and portrays several different characters who are revealed to be clones. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of one of her clones, Elizabeth Childs, after witnessing Childs’ suicide. The series raises issues about the moral and ethical implications of human cloning and personal identity.

Another BBC America show I think you should watch is Broadchurch, even though there is an American remake of this show (called Gracepoint) starting on Fox in October. Broadchurch is a crime drama. Season one is about the death of an eleven-year-old boy, and the search for his murderer. Broadchurch will be returning for a second season.

Hell on Wheels comes highly recommended by my husband. The Season 4 premiere is August 2 on AMC. This historical drama is set in the 1860s at the end of the United States Civil War.

Sherlock, the BBC version is a contemporary adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories. The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and is an easy show to binge-watch. Each of the seasons is made up of three 90-minute episodes. There is also a 2013 special Christmas mini-episode. A fourth season is currently in the works.

I’m so sad that my favorite comedy show, NBC’s Parks & Rec will be ending after its upcoming seventh season. My Thursday nights will never be the same. Luckily, we can binge-watch and laugh our way through the previous seasons.

Last but not least is another British favorite of mine, Downton Abbey. I had sworn off the series after the way season three ended (I was so devastated!) But I forgot my anger the second that Season 4 began on PBS, and all is forgiven now. Get ready for Season 5 of this historical fiction TV series, set in England’s post-Edwardian era. Don’t miss out, this is one of the most-watched television shows in the world!

I am a binge TV watcher. I do not watch all the shows when they are on, so I will spend a lazy Saturday catching up and watching some of the shows I love by Binging and watching for hours. These are all great shows to watch.

I loved Downton Abbey but I’ve only watched 1 season on DVD so far but it’s in my NETFLIX queue along with Scandal, Mad Men, Dexter… I’ve got LOTS of catching up to do. I also enjoy watching my favorite South Asian soaps on my iPad.

I’ve heard about Orphan Black and Longmire. I watched season 2 of Orange is the New Black as soon as it aired on NETFLIX.

I can only binge watch for so long. Hubby has more TV stamina/endurance.

Dexter is a good one, even though I have to admit I didn’t like the last half of the series as much as I liked the first half. I have Scandal in my queue and have almost caught up. Mad Men is one I need to give another chance. I tried to watch the first couple eps but it seemed so slow. I just can’t get into it for some reason. I love Downton Abbey, too. I really can’t wait for The Walking Dead to start the new season next month. I love that show!
