My family received K’NEX and Tinkertoy sets for our review. As always, the opinions expressed within the blog post are 100% honest and my own. The giveaway sponsor is responsible for prize fulfillment. This blog post may contain affiliate links.
We recently built our first K-FORCE Build and Blast Mini Cross Building Set. This 82-piece set is recommended for ages 8+. Younger kids will probably need adult help to build their blaster. My 8-year-old and I built this one together. The Mini Cross shoots foam darts a LOOOOONG way (up to 75 feet) and comes with custom K’NEX pieces so you can personalize your blaster!
It didn’t take us too long to build the Mini Cross blaster together. The only thing that was a bit annoying was when my son would pull too hard to reset the trigger, he sometimes ended up breaking off a piece or two. So we would have to put it back together. Maybe it’s just him! I don’t know if anyone else has had this issue or not. He ended up having a lot of fun with the Mini Cross blaster. Our next project is for the K-20X blaster that fires up to 75 feet! It’s a little bit more challenging to build with 165 pieces. This one is also recommended for ages 8 and up.
The cool thing about the K-20X is that you can use special parts (included) to build different four different kinds of blasters. (You can only build one model at a time.) All the pieces of the K-Force Build and Blast line are compatible with each other – so kids can collect all the models.
Wheels, wheels, and more wheels! Younger kids ages 3+ are going to love the latest TINKERTOY building set. The Wild Wheels set comes with plenty of pieces (76) to keep them busy creating several different wheeled models. There’s an instruction sheet full of ideas including a pull-along duck, a wheel barrel and race cars.
Did you know? Tinkertoy has been entertaining kids for more than 100 years!
When it comes to following instructions to build a model, I still have to help my 4-year-old. That’s okay! We have lots of fun playing together. This set gives us enough pieces to build one wheeled model (using the suggestions on the instruction sheet) at a time. I like that once we build something, the pieces are really snapped together so they stay together when my son plays with them. But, they aren’t too hard to take apart when he is ready to build again.

K’NEX, K-FORCE and TINKERTOY building sets are fun gift ideas for kids. One of the things I like best is that we can continue to add to our collection of pieces. Kids can learn to follow building set instructions OR enjoy using their imaginations to come up with their own creations. Sets are available for purchase at KNEX.com, Walmart and Amazon.
