My family’s health and well-being is very important to me. I try to make the best choices when it comes to the food we eat and products we use everyday. One change my family can work on in order to better our healthy living habits is by making sure we are eating nutritious meals and snacks. I think we do a pretty good job, but I have learned that sometimes food we think is healthy may not be as good for us as we think. For example, my kids love to eat yogurt. Yogurt is what I would consider to be a good, healthy snack choice. However, not all yogurt is created equally. I found this out when I began reading the yogurt labels. Many yogurts aimed at children are packed with sugar — which is NOT good for them. I now read all of our food labels so that I can know exactly what we are putting into our bodies.
Part of Walmart’s Healthy Living Initiative is a video that includes shopping tips that will help customers like you and me learn how to read the ingredients labels to choose items that have a good nutritional value. They also emphasize the need to look for foods that are made with nutritious Whole Grains.
Walmart has recently announced that they will be donating $9.5 million in grants to help families in communities across the nation live a healthier lifestyle. The money will be distributed across several different organizations, which you can learn more about at Walmart’s Healthy Living Initiative. I really like that $1.5 million will go to the Action For Healthy Kids, which will be used to give school children access to nutritious foods and nutrition programs. Maybe this program will benefit a school in your area!
Another aspect of Walmart’s Healthy Living Initiative is aimed at helping families become educated about nutrition. Dr. Ro, an award-winning health journalist and TV personality (you may have seen her on the Dr. Oz show) will be sharing her tips for a healthy lifestyle and how people can eat healthy foods on a budget.
