How OxiClean Saved Our Hand-Me-Downs AND Washed the Dishes

March 12, 2014 by Nicole 32 Comments

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for OxiClean. I received three product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Spring is in the air and my family’s spring cleaning routine has already begun. The snow has melted so we can clean up our yard and get the garden areas ready for planting. And maybe this is the year we’ll finally get our garage organized. No matter what season it is, I have got piles of dirty laundry and dishes to do. Three powerful new OxiClean products can help.

A little bit about my dirty laundry:

I have been playing the hand-me-down game for ten years now. We have a house full of four boys, so as long as a clothing item isn’t ripped or stained, I keep passing it on down the line. Three shirts were recently pulled out of rotation because I could not get rid of the stains. Honestly, I don’t know WHAT that red stuff is on the T-Rex pajama top! See if you can figure it out…it’s pictured below.

OxiClean White Revive Laundry Stain Remover is a color safe bleach alternative that keeps whites white without the harmful effects of bleach. It works to remove even the toughest stains and revives dingy whites. But does it stand a chance against my dirty laundry?

I like to call these photos How OxiClean Saved Our Hand-Me-Downs.

Check out the BEFORE pictures…keep in mind these are preschool-aged boy clothes. We have got a combo of dirt, spaghetti sauce, markers and dried boogers going on here.

And could I get a drumroll, please??? Take a look at the AFTER pictures…there is a night and day difference! These clothes look almost as good as new, thanks to OxiClean White Revive Laundry Stain Remover and Laundry Detergent.

It really was not so hard to get rid of those stains after all. And I can put those three shirts back to good use, instead of getting rid of them just because they were stained. They have plenty of wear for the next kid.

How I got rid of laundry stains using OxiClean:

  • Step One: I filled a sink with warm water and a scoop of OxiClean White Revive Stain Remover and added the stained clothing.
  • Step Two: I let the clothes soak in the OxiClean for about 8 hours (6 hours is recommended but I just let mine soak overnight). Note: I literally let these SOAK. I did not scrub, I did not stir, I did nothing, nada, zilch, zip, zero. Just walked away and let OxiClean do the work.
  • Step Three: I removed the clothes from soaking in the sink and tossed into the washer. I laundered the clothes as usual with OxiClean Laundry detergent.

Another thing I like about OxiClean White Revive Laundry Stain Remover is the fresh scent. If you use chlorine bleach, you know how harsh those fumes can be. Personally, I can’t stand the smell of chlorine bleach.  I love the OxiClean bleach alternative because I can whiten and freshen our clothes, towels, and sheets without the chlorine, fumes and color damage.

OxiClean Laundry Detergent brings powerful stain-fighters and a clean scent to my laundry. The stain-fighters can lift away even the scariest kinds of stains like grass, oil, grease and red wine. OxiClean Laundry Detergent is available in liquid form and in time-saving detergent paks.

So while OxiClean works its magic in my laundry room, I still need to tackle that dishwasher full of dirty dishes…

I usually do one load of dishes in the dishwasher per day. Sometimes two. I conserve water by refusing to pre-rinse my dirty dishes – so my dishwasher detergent needs to be powerful enough to remove stuck-on food. We also use a lot of clear glasses that must be kept sparkling and spot-free.

A couple things I liked right off the bat about OxiClean 4X Extreme Power Crystals dishwasher detergent was the slim bottle design and the concentrated formula. The bottle doesn’t take up much space underneath my sink. And I only have to fill the dishwasher cup halfway for normal loads!

OxiClean’s dishwasher detergent did a great job cleaning my dishes and didn’t leave any spots or cloudy film on my glassware. The 4X Extreme Power Crystals are available in Fresh Clean and Lemon Clean scents. If you are like me and enjoy the ease of time-saving detergent paks, you are in luck because they make those, too! Keep up with the latest OxiClean news when you Like OxiClean on Facebook.

What is the worst clothing stain you have ever tried to fight? Which product would you like to try first: OxiClean Laundry Detergent, 4X Extreme Power Crystals, or the White Revive Stain Remover?

I was amazed, too. These clothes were in the garbage pile but I thought, you know what, these would be a great test for OxiClean. And all the stains came out. I’m so glad I have the pictures for proof!

I’ve used OxiClean a lot over the past year to get stains out of clothing but also to remove color bleeding on clothing and clean up the grout on our tile. It’s such a versatile product.

If you have never tried OxiClean before run(don’t walk)to the store–I have used it for years and can hardly wait to finish writing this post so that I can run out and buy these new products!!!! I didn’t even know these were out–I love, love, love my “original” OxiClean detergent, and the OxiClean spray stain remover–so I know I will feel the same about these.
Your results are amazing—thank you for blogging about these products.

Great Oxiclean stain removal products for washing clothes in a laundry. It seems to be a mandate product for stain removal and to offer the clothes the freshness and the stuff as it was before.

      Hi Melissa,
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your red and white coat turning pink. I haven’t tried OxiClean for dye transfers, but it would be worth a try to soak the coat in OxiClean/water and see if it helps. Other things to try would be soaking in a color-safe bleach (do a test spot first to make sure it works so you don’t ruin the coat), or try washing the coat with a “color catcher” product (Shout makes one.) Dye transfer stains are really tough! Good luck. If you do have success, let me know what works if you have the chance. Thanks! –Nicole
