After School Snacks from A to Z. (26 recipes, one for every letter!)

August 29, 2014 by Nicole

The minute my kids walk in the door from school, they are sniffing for food. You’d think they had not had a bite to eat all day – but I send them a lunchbox packed with food, and it is always empty when they get home. So I know they eat – but by late afternoon, they are in desperate need of a refuel.

I like to have after school snacks for them that won’t ruin their appetite for dinner. And I try to avoid feeding them sugary sweets like candy by making simple, healthy things for them to nibble on. Of course, even I break my own “rules” every now and then so we can enjoy brownies and cupcakes. For my latest Foodie collection, I found 26 After School Snack recipes – one kid-friendly snack recipe for every letter of the alphabet.

It was a fun challenge – especially by the time I got to the Letter X. Not many words start with X, much less food words! So I may have stretched the meaning of the letter X a bit for that recipe to fit in. (Hot Cross Buns!)

It is always terrific to get new snack ideas. I even need them for myself after work. I think a cup of yogurt or fruit would make a good snack.

My girls are always hungry when they come in. I usually just give them fruit and granola bars.
