April 7-13, 2013 is National Boys & Girls Club Week!
This week, join with thousands of communities across the nation to celebrate the invaluable service the Boys & Girls Clubs of America gives to millions of children in the USA and on military installations overseas. I used to volunteer at my local BGCA and really enjoyed seeing the positive influence the Club’s after school programs have on the kids. Among other things, the Club encourages young people to do well in school, give back to their community and choose healthy lifestyles. I encourage you to learn more about the BCGA during this special week of celebration.
YOU ARE INVITED to Open the Door and Take the Tour of Boys & Girls Clubs online, or visit your local Boys & Girls Club. Clubs across the country will be hosting special daily activities this week for Club members, their parents and neighborhoods to enjoy. Please see below for a daily schedule of Boys & Girls Club Week events.
The week-long celebration will mean special events including teen forums, carnivals, health fairs and much more. Many Boys & Girls Clubs Service groups will be celebrating by giving back to their community by volunteering at homeless shelters and assisted living facilities.
The daily schedule for this year’s celebration includes the following:
- Monday, April 8 – Open the door to education.
- Tuesday, April 9 – Open the door to technology.
- Wednesday, April 10 – Open the door to character and citizenship.
- Thursday, April 11 – Open the door to healthy lifestyles.
- Friday, April 12 – Open the door. Take the tour.
Don’t miss out on your chance to learn more and visit your local Boys & Girls Club. There will be opportunities to hear from the kids and other stakeholders on the impact the Boys & Girls Club has had on their lives. If a physical tour of your local BGCA is not an option, you can take a virtual Club tour online all week long at greatfutures.org.

I was always impressed by how much Denzel Washington gives of himself to this well-deserving cause!
